My present invention relates to Certain improvements in cigarillo manufacturing machines of the general character as disclosed in my prior specification of Patent No. 1,480,490. Said specification describes a machine comprising a perforated rolling table, having a transverse groove therein, a perforated flexible band stretched over said table, means for actuating said band, a stamper for forcing tobacco into said groove, a frame carrying gumming eans and a pneumatic transporter, means for supportingand actuating said frame, and a stationary pneumatic receiver for initially sup;
porting the wrapper and adapted to copperate with said transporter and gumming means. The pneumatic transporter of this machine is provided witha hinged member serving to protect the gummed edge of the wrapper, said member being arranged in a position corresponding with that of the g 'ng place of the pneumatic receiver and adapted to be moved with its bottom face flush with the bottom face of the transporter when the latter is swung towards the receiver, means being provided forswinging said member away from the transporter when the transporter arrives above the rolling table.
The object of my present invention is to simplify the construction of my prior machine and to improve the operation thereof. With this object in view I so organize the various parts of the machine thatthe saidhinged member also functions as a gumming means. This has the advantage that it is not necessary, as is the case with my prior construction, for the wrapper to' be gummed while supported on the receiver and, consequently, hat the construction of the receiver can be simplified. I
In a machine embodying my novel 1mprovement the hinged member or edge protector as it may be called exerts some considerable pressure on the wrapper supported on the rolling table so-that it is advisable also provide auxiliary means for more positively preventing the wrapper from-being moved out of its correct osition relative to the said groove in the rol ing table. To this end the improved pneumatic trans orter may be provided with a hinged mem' er at the side oppositethe gummi means and adapted to cooperate with e si 6 wall of'tl e said groove to .firmly hold the wrapper against undue motion.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood I shall now proceed to describe the same with reference to the annexed drawing, on which Fig. 1 is a side elevational view'of the machine, and Figs. 2 and 3 are vertical sectional, views of myimproved pneumatic transporter and of part of the rolling table.
The stationary frame 1 serves to sup ort the hollow casting 2, the curved top of w 'ch forms the rolling table. Said top is provided with a cross groove 3 for receiving the tobacco, and part of the top adjacent to this oove is provided with gperforations 4.

The stationary receiver is designated by 13, the transporter by 14, and these members and also the hollow casting 2 are provided with means whereby they maybe connected to a vacuum space. Y
' The wrapper for a cigarillo to be formed on the rolling table is placed on the cover of the receiver 13 whence it isconveyed by the transporter 14 to the perforated portion of the rolling table. The transporter 14,
which is provided with a nozzle 16 for the connection of a flexible vacuum pipe, is secured to frame 15, by means of which the transporter 14 "can be moved into its extreme left hand and right hand positions to coact with the rolling table 2 and with the receiver 13, respectively.

The frame 15 is supported at its left hand end, as at 25, by the arm 8, and at its right hand side, as at 26, by an arm 27. 8: pivoted to one end of a. rod 28 having its on the frame 15 is mounted on the frame 1. Said rod 29 carries an antifriction roller 30 held in contact with a cam 31 by means of a spring 29.
The arm 27 is pivoted to a bell crank lever 32, 33 pivoted to the frame 1 as at 32 and having an antifriction roller 34 cooperating with a cam 35.
The arm 12 is secured to an arm 37 pivot ed to the frame 1 as at 37 and carrying an antifriction roller 38 contacting with the periphery of a cam 39.
Cams 31, 35 and 39 are keyed on a common shaft 40.
The transporter 14 (Figs. 2 and 3) accommodates at its right hand side a brush or edge-protector, which is rotatably mounted on a shaft 44. Said brush is provided with three radially projecting rubber strips 45, regularly spaced apart and coacting with a cylinder 54, which is adapted to'revolve 1n 3. container 55 partly filled with glue.
The brush and the cylinder 54 are each provided with ratchet and pawl mechanism, but the drawing only illustrates theratchet wheel 56 and the spring loaded pawl 57 of the brush. Pawl 57 is pivoted to the end of one 'arm 58 of a three-armed 59, 60.
The transporter '14 is provided at its left lever 58,
hand side with a hinged portion 61, the pivot of which is designated by 62. During its swing the upper edge of said portion moves closely over a cylindrical face 63 so as to form a practically air tight joint.
The compartment 64 serves to receive out tobacco and is provided with a hinged bottom 65'.
As stated the transporter just described is secured to the frame 15 (Fig. 1) and, consequently, adapted to be moved to and fro between the receiver and the rolling table. When the transporter assumes a position vertically above the receiver, vacuum is created therein and overpressure is set up in the receiver so that it picks up the wrapper supported on the receiver, it being understood that a moment before, the wrapper has been cut at 1 ts right hand side edge by the roller 24 moving over the cutting edge of knife 49.. Thereupon the transporter is swung to the left and placed upon the rolling table, after which the stamper 11 moves downward so as to push the tobacco from the compartment 64 into the groove 3. Concurrently, a finger 36 secured to arm 12 engages arm of the three-armed lever and forces it downward, whereby thegumming brush is turned through 60 in thedirection of the arrow.
The rubber strip, which at that moment was at the bottom side to prevent the gummed edge of the wrapper 66 from curling, is thus the hinged portion 61 of the transporter was swung in a counter-clockwise direction so as to firmly press the left hand side edge of the wrapper 66 against the right hand side wall of groove 3..
Immediately after the swing of the hinged portion 61 atmospheric or overpressure is springs (not shown) and the transporter is again .moved to the right. An abutment 67 mounted on the receiver now engages arm 59' of the three-armed lever so as to again move the brush through an angular distance of 60, the consequence being, that the next rubber strip to the left (which had pIe viously taken up glue from the cylinder 54) is turned vertically downward to gum and protect the edge of the fresh wrapper on the receiver.
The brush of the transporter could as well be arranged to receive oscillatory or reciprocatory movement and to cooperate with a gumming cylinder mounted in'the frame of the machine.
What I claim is:
1. In a machine for manufacturing cigarillos and the like, a stationary rolling table, a stationary receiver, a pneumatic transporter, means for moving said transporter from the said rolling table to the said re-;
ceiver and vice versa, gumming means'flex-' ibly coupled with the said transporter and adapted to be moved with a face flush with the bottom face of the said transporter, and means for actuating said gumming means.
2. In a machine for manufacturing cigarillos and the like, a'stationary rolling table,- a stationary receiver, a pneumatic trans-- container secured to said transporter and adapted to take up gum, and. a gumming cylinder partly extending into said container and cooperating with said gumming means.
3. In a machine for manufacturing cigarillos and the like, a stationary rolling table,

4. In a machine for manufacturing cigarillos and the like, a stationary rolling table having a groove for receiving tobacco, a stationary receiver, a pneumatic transporter, means for moving said transporter from the said rolling tablerto the said receiver and vice versa, gumming means flexibly coupled with the said transporter and adapted to be moved with a face flush with the bottom face of the said transporter, and a member hinged to the said transporter at the side opposite the gumming means and adapted to cooperate with a side wall of the said groove for-clamping a wrapper between them. 5.
