F. CA'RBENAY SYSTEM OF mmosmmune Filed April 4, 1 924 anvi /WM firm/v0 amwr 3% San Patented July 20, 1926.
UNITE D STAT ES FERNAND CARBEN'AY, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
SYSTEM OF RADIOSIGNALING.
Application filed April 4, 1924, Serial No. 704,247, and in France May 12, 1923.
My inventionrelates in general to radio signaling systems.
'One of the principal objects of my invention is the provision of means foreasily and conveniently adapting a radio sign-at ing system for the efficient reception of waves of various wave lengths The operation and other objects of my invention will be better understood from the billowing description taken in connection with the drawing, inzwhich The figure is a schematic diagram of a preferred embodiment of my system.
Referring to the figure, an inductance coil 1 has one extremity connected to ground G thru lead 2 and the other extremity connected to stationary contact 3 thru lead 4. The movable spring contact 5 is normally biased to make contact with stationary contact 3. Movable spring contact 5 is con neoted to primary coil 6 of the signaling apparatus t-hru lead 7. The primary coil is connected to ground G thru lead 8.
The inductance coil 1 has a plurality of taps 9, 10, 11 and 12 connected to a plurality of sockets 13, 14, 15 and 16 respectively. One set of plates of a condenser 17 is connected to one of the extremities of the inductance coil 1, while the other set of plates of the condenser is connected to a socket 18.
The antenna 19 is connected to plug 20 by means of a flexible lead 21. The plug 20 has a guiding and retaining member 22 for ground G thru flexible lead 21, plug holding the positions.
The operation of my invention depends on the utilization of the well known principle of varying the natural wave length of a signaling system by introducing inducta-nce or capacity or both in series of parallel or both in the system.
If comparatively long waves are to be received, the plug 20 is inserted in the guiding member 22, which disconnects the movable contact 5 from the stationary contact 3. The inductance coil 1 and condenser 17 plug in one of its operative are thereby eliminated from the signaling system and the antenna 19 is connected to 20, movable contact 5, lead 7, primary coil 6 and lead 8.
To change the natural wave length of the system, the plug 20 may be withdrawn from guiding member 22, thereby causing contact 5 to contact with the stationary contact 3,
and inserted in any one of the sockets 13, let, 15, 16 or 18to vary the ratio of the apacity to the inductance in the system by introducing capacity or inductance or both in parallel or series or both in the signaling system. I
Although I have shown a preferred cmbodiincnt of my invention, I wish'it to be distinctly understood that I do not limit myself to said preferred embodiment; but may employ such otherv modifications as are embraced within the scope and spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
