Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS H. LOGAN, OF UNITED STATES ARMY.
IMPROVEMENT lN CROQUET-MALLETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,193, dated January 26,1875; application filed September 10, 1874.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. LOGAN, of United States Army, have invented a new and Improved Croquet-Mallet; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which I Figure l is a plan view of the mallet as it lies on the ground, while Fig. 2 isa vertical section.
The invention relates to the game of croquet; and consists in a novel mode of constructing the mallet, as hereinafter fully described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
A represents the handle; 13 B, the elastic heads, being made of wood, leather, or other elastic material; and O C, the sections of stock that receive and hold both handle and heads. Each section, 0, has a recess, 0, and both of the latter together embrace compressingly the handle-tench a. D D are clamp-screws that hold sections G G to each other, one above and the other below the tenon a. E E are flanges at each end of stock, preferably turned inward on their upper edges, 0, to clasp more firmly the elastic heads B B. The latter may, if desired, and preferably, though not necessarily, be provided with a ring-groove, b, in which the turned edges 0 may enter. By this construction of block the heads may be conveniently removed for repair or renewal, and yet held with great firmness and security.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A croquet-mallet stock made in two sections, G 0, having recesses to receive handle and elastic heads, and held by detachable clamp-screws, as shown and described.
THOMAS H. LOGAN.
