Description

Patented July 6, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT R. DERGE, OF BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA.
FLATIRON HOLDER.
Application led December 27, 19273. Serial No. 682,940.
My' invention is an improved fiat-iron holder, the object of which is to so insulate the holder that the danger of fire, due. to igniting the ironing board, is entirely eliminated. Y
Another object is to provide a holder hav ing an inner tray and an outer tray'which are separated and insulated from each other by alayer of insulating material.
A further object is to provide a holder which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be further described in the following detailed description.
In the annexed drawingin which my invention is illustrated:
Figure l is a plan view of my holder.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the 2G line 2 2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the sheet forming the outer tray, prior to bending in shape.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 4 4. of Figure l.
Referring more particularly to the drawing1 my holder comprises an outer tray l, the side walls 2 of which converge upwardly. The inner tray 3 in which the iron is adapted to rest has converging side walls 4. These walls extend upwardly slightly above the upper edge of the walls 2. Thus, if the iron is permitted to rest on the walls 4, it will not touch the tray l and consequently will not heatsaid tray.
An insulating and fire resistant packing 5 (such as asbestos) is placed between the trays l and 3 and if desired may also be formed in the shape of a tray, with converging side walls.
The trays l and 3 are preferably stamped 40 from a single piece of metal, and the tray l as shown at 6 has one end left unfolded. With this end open the packing 5 and tray 3 is inserted, after which the end is folded upwardly and the flanges 7 thereon are riv- 45 eted to the adjacent side.
The converging sides of the trays 1 and 3 enables the tray 3 to be held in place without a connecting pin or link between the two trays. The packing 5 serves to hold the tray 50 3 in position and insulates it from the outer tray l, thus eliminating all possibility of leating the outer tray, and thus causing a Having described my invention, I claim'. 55
A Hatiron holder comprising an outer tray having upwardly and inwardly converging side walls, an inner tray of similar shape positioned within said outer tray in spaced relaton thereto, the walls of said inner tray projecting above the plane of the upper edges of the walls of the outer tray, and insulating material filling the space between said trays.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ALBERT R. DERGE.
