SACK HOLDER.
Application led April 6, 1925.
This invention relates to a sack holder, the general object of the invention being to provide means for holding the sack in open position so that material can be easily placed in the same.
Another' object of the invention is to provide means for adjusting the device to fit different sizes of sacks.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and `in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to vbe hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters vdenote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which: -0 Figure l is a plan view showing the device in use. y
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Figure l. Y
Figure 3 is an enlarged bottom plan view of one member of the device.
Figure 4- is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view -through onemember. y
Figure G is a section on line 6-6 of Figure 1.
In these views l indicates a pair of arms, each arm having a plate fastened thereto which forms one part of a hinge 2. The otherplate of the hinge is of considerable length and is Jfastened by the bolts 3 to a 'plate 4, the plate l and the hinge plate acting as clamping means for clamping the arm to a supporting bar 5. A recess 6 is formed in the rear part of each arm, said 40 recess forming a lip 7 which acts to clamp a portion of the sack between itself and the hinge plate. A small notch 8 is formed in the outer end of each arm and an L-shaped lever 9 is pivoted to each arm and has a knob l() on its small arm for engaging the notch 8 when the lever is in lowered position.
In using the device the clamping plates are adjusted on the supporting bar 5 to suit the width of sack to be lled and the arms are then swung upwardly and a por- CFI Serial No. 21,085.
tionk of the sack placed over the lips 7 and then the arms are swung downwardly to cause the lips to grip the sack between themselves and the hinge plates, as shown in Figure 6. The front edge ofthe sack is then pulled over the outer ends of the arms and the levers 9 swung downwardly to grip Athe sack between their knobs l0 and the bar 5 may be supported in any desired many ner, the drawing showing it being supported by thedepending bar 1l. n
It is thought from the foregoing. description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
A sack holder comprising a supporting bar, spaced clamping plates arranged in pairs upon said bar for adjustment toward and away from each other longitudinally of the bar, arms hinged to the lowermost plate of each pair with the inner ends of the arms formed with recesses providing engaging lips, the outer ends of said arms having notches therein, L-shaped levers pivoted to the arms adjacent the outer ends thereof, and knobs formed on the short arm of the l shaped levers and adapted to cooperate with the notches in the outer ends of the arms for clamping a portion of a sack to the arms. f
In testimony whereof I alliX my signature.
JOHN WV. STARK.
