ROLL HOLDER.
Application led August 18, 1922.
To all whom/t mary cof/cern Be it known that I, OBnL JUVET, a Citizen of the United States, residing at Ferndale, in the county of Whatcom and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roll Holders, of which the following is a specication.
rlhis invention relates to improvements in roll holders and has particular reference to holders for use with blue print rolls, road maps and the like.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a holder which will assist the user in holding the sheet of blue print or'the like in a flat position while viewing the same.
Another object is to provide a holder of this character which is simple to construct, cheap to manufacture and of light weight, also one which is readily applicable to various sizes of rolls.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specication, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

It is a well known fact that it is extremely diicult to hold and examine a roll, such as blue prints, while in the open due to the natural curvature of the paper which has previously been rolled, and also due to the fact that slight currents of air tend to wrinkle and wave the paper. for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 11 designates a tubular member spaced from a tubular member 12 as by hinges 13. These hinges are each provided with a spring as shown at 14 which tend to maintain these tubular members in Contact one with the other at all times. rllhese tubular members are each provided upon their adjacent faces with serrations 16 (see Figure 3) which serrations are adapted to engage one end of a roll of paper as will be later seen.
Suitable finger pieces 17 and 18 are riveted to the tubular members 11 and 12, which linger pieces serve to separate 4the tubular members 11 and 12 for the purpose of insert-ing the sheet of paper therebetween. Vithin these tubular members 11 and 12 are placed slidable extensions as shown at 19 and 21. These extensions are each provided with a protuberance 22 extending into a slot 23 formed within the outer surface oit' the tubular members 11 and 12. This construction is best shown in Figure 1. Each tit prevents its respective extension from leaving the respective tubulars members. Attached to one of the tubular members as for instance the member 12 are links 24 and 26. These links are each provided with a slot as shown at 27 and 28, which slot engages a rivet as shown at 29 and 31. To the free extremities of these links, there are secured links 32 and 33 which are crossed and pivoted as shown at 34, to the free ends of which I have in turn pivoted links 36 and 37. These last-mentioned links are provided with slots similar to the slots 27 and 28 and surround rivets secured in the rear portion of a guide 38, which guide is tubular and carries at its lower extremity a rigid clip 39, while a sliding clip 41 is provided at its upper extremity. The sliding clip referred to is likewise held from being accidentallyT displaced as by a protuberance 42. A similar series of links connect the guide 38 with a tubular member 43, which tubular member is provided with a rigid clip 44C at its lower extremity and a movable clip 16 at its upper extremity. These last mentioned clips g inezeee are each, `provided With a swinging finger as shown at 47 and 48, the purpose oit' Which Will be later seen.

resultl will be that'the paperispulledy from Ait thistimethe roll held in the spring member 54 and is maintained flat by the tubular members 11 and 12, and the clips 39, 41, 46 and 44. Should the entire roll be unrolled, then the ngers 47 and 48`may be extended and the free lend of the paper may be engaged beneath the tubular member 51 as by the serrations 53.
From the foregoing description taken in connection With the accompanying dravw ings, it Will be seen that I have provided a very light, simple andefiicient device for accomplishing the purpose set forth.

Having thus described my invention, I claimzn In a device of the character described, the combina-tion* with a plurality of tubular members hinged one to the other and' adapted tobe held in contact one. with the other` toggle-means secured to oneof said tubular members, a thirdV tubular member secured to said toggle means, clips mounted on saidv thirdltubular member, toggle .means secured to said third tubular member and extending to a fourth tubular member, and aclip carried on said fourth tubular member, substantially as and for the purpose described.
