METHOD OF ATTACHING- SAIL SLIDES TO AILS.
Application filed November This invention relates to a new and use- .ful improvement in the method of connecting a sail slide to a sail, whereby it is possible to dispense with the use of hemp or twine for such connection, and instead effect a more simple and stronger attachment between such parts.
Another object of my invention is to provide an ii'iexpeusive and durable device, which besides being easily applicable for such purpose, and saving time and lab r, also assures a rigid connection between said sail and sail-slide; features very essential in this line of manufacture.
With the above and other objects i1, view my invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, reference being had to the accompanyino dra ving, in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of an embodiment in part, of my invention; Fig. 2 it a side elevation; 3 is a transverse vertical section taken on line aa of Fig. 1, Fig. l. presents a prospective view of my device unattached.
Referring in detail to the drawings, 10 designates a clip consisting of a comparatively thin strip of metal, of substantially rectangular shape. This strip is formed into a clasp or clip, through a round bent 12 of its middle portion, said bent being adapted to be inserted into and secure, as a means f fastening, a sail-slide 13.
Said clip has arms 11 and 11'. In order to diminish the wear and tear on the rope attached to the sail 15, said arms are in- 3 their ends, at 16, provided goth: upwardly turned edges to friction. One arm 11 of said clip has its free end. provided with an eye let 1?, adapted to receive a Jrotuberance 18 formed on the other arm 11. Said protuberance is cylindrically shaped and formed with a corresponding opening extending through its center.
The attachment to a sail is accomplished by means of a perforation in same through which is inserted said protuberance 18 to be received by the eyelet 17, whereupon the 11, 1925. Serial No. 68,302.
To avoid cutting or injuring said sail the outer edges of the arms 20, 21 are formed with a slight turning in outwardly direction, as shown in Fig. 3.
. lavii 9 thus full T l 'ib d In invention L i 3 cesci e y at I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. An article of manufacture comprising a rectangular metal body, bent upon itself .1 e arms being provided with outwardly turned edge portions, and the end portions or said arms being formed one with an eye it and the other with. a projection adapted to received by said eyelet for the purpose airing said arms tightly to a sail, and w connecting the latter to a sail-slide. As an article of manufacture, a clip adapted to receive and hold a sail slide and comprising a body having arms formed therewith by bending it upon itself, slightly upwardly turned edges on said arms, intermediate the ends thereof, one ofsaid arms having an eyelet formed near its free end, a cylindrical protuberance formed on the other arm near the free end thereof having a central opening and adapted to engage into said eyelet for attaching said arms to a sail and connecting the sail slide thereto.
3. ilsan article of manufacture, a means for attaching a sail slide to a sail, said means comprising a substantially elongated, rectangular metal body forming arms bent upon themselves and adapted to receive a sail slide, betel-engaging means near the outer 'd arms adapted to secure said free ends of sai body to a sail, a rope on said sail adapted to be engaged between the folded body arms, and outwardly turned edges on said arms for preven ing injury to the sail when said metal body and said sail slide thereon are attached to the sail by the engagement between the interengaging means.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my name.
