ULTRA-VIOLET ELECTRODE.

The present invention relates to improvements in electrodes, particularly vacuum electrodes which are charged with a precious gas to be used with high frequency currents for therapeutical purposes. They are intended to replace the electrodes used heretofore which produce bluish .white or red-- dish blue rays.
It is the principal object of the invention to produce an electrode of this type which is provided with a means for producing ultra-violet rays of the well known wave length for therapeutical purposes which remain cold, and thereby greatly increase the healing quality of the rays.
Another object of the invention is the provision of such an electrode on which a quartz plate is mounted through which the raysare projected and which may have the form illustrated as an example, which however may just as well have any required shape and form, if the electrode is used for instance in the treatment of the cavities or interior parts of the human body such as the urethra, vagina, ears, nose, mouth or rectum.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

The vacuum tube 10 of any suitable form and shape contains a precious gas and a cathode 11 held therein by means of a holder 12 connected by means of a wire 13 with a metal sleeve 14 secured -to the narrower front end'of the electrode and adapted to be connected with a high frequency current apparatus.- A quartz plate 15 is cemented to 4 the lower end of the electrode by means of a suitable cement or the like and covers an opening 16 in the lower end wall of the electrode. This quartz plate may also have the form of a sleeve adapted to cover the lower end of the electrode.
It will be clear that such changes may be made in the general arrangement and the construction of the minor details of my'invention as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure As an article of manufacture, an electrode comprising a tube containing a gas having a narrower laterally extendin elongated portion to serve as a handle, a older within the tube, a cathode within said holder, a metal sleeve upon the terminal of the laterally extending portion, a wire connect- 55 mg said sleeve and cathode, and a quartz plate covering an opening formed in one end of the tube.
