IMPROVEMENT IN sLEleHs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,036, dated January 26, 1875 application iiled December 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE F. MOORE, of Owego, in the county of Tioga and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Method of Splicing Sleigh or Gutter Arms; and I do hereby declare that the following `is a full and exact description of the said invention, reference being had to the drawings herewith, in Which- Figure lis a plan representing the improve-` ment entire. Fig. 2 is a section through the dotted line :v x in Fig. l.
My invention relates to that class of cutter or sleigh boxes in which the box and running part ofthe sleigh are made together or in one, and in which the seat'is at the back or rear of the sleigh.
The improvement consists in using two pieces of Wood, a a', properly bent and shaped, so as to form the upper portion of the rear of the box, and at the same time forming the back and arms of the seat. These pieces a a' are so bent as to give the desired curve to the back of the sleigh, and are of sufcient Width to give the desired height to the back of the seat and the arms. They are spliced at the rear of the sleigh at b. The
sills c c ot' the box rest upon the beams ofthe running part, and are curved upward at the rear ends to support the pieces a a at the back of the sleigh. d d are side braces from such sills to the arms supporting them on the sides. The frame of the rear portion of the sleigh-box and of the seat is thus formed ready for the panels. The seat-bottom maT be arranged, as desired, within the arms.
I claim- The bent pieces a c', in combination -with the sills c c and side braces d d', to form the frame, back, and arms of the rear portion of the sleigh-box, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
THEODORE F. MOORE. Witnesses:
