' MOISTENING BOTTLE.
Application filed November 8, 1924. Serial No. 748,607..
My invention is an improved moistening bottle, particularly applicable for moistening the gunnned surfaces of envelopes, postage stamps, and so forth.
The object of my invention is to provide a moistening bottle which is simple in construction and efiicient in operation.
Another object of my invention is to provide a .moistening bottle which will remove the excess liquid from the swab as it is withdrawn.
In the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated:
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of my moistening bottle.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken at right angles to the View shown in Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the draw- 7 ing, a bottle 1 of any desired shape, but preferably having a constricted neck 2 thereon, and is provided with a stopper or handle 3; a rod 4 is secured to the handle 3 and depends therefrom, and is secured to a fibrous swab 5.
The swab 5 is preferably formed of felt or a similar material, and is secured to the rod 4 in the following manner. A metal plate 6 is placed in the swab 5, which is bent around it, and the hook 7 in the end of the rod 4 extends through the swab 5 and through an opening in the plate 6,thus holding the ends of the swab together as well as positioning the plate 6.
,The plate 6 serves to hold the swab in position so that it will not readily become deformed in actual use. The plate .6 is securely held in the hook 7 and extends to adjacent the end of the swab as shown. In order to remove the excess liquid from the swab 5 as it is withdrawn from the liquid in the bottle 1, a U-shaped plate 8 is provided, having a constricted portion 9 adjacent the top thereof. This plate is secured in position in the bottle 1 by a horizontal arm 10 secured to the bottom thereof and engaging the sides of said bottle and a pair of upwardly extending arms 11 are also secured to the bottom of the plate and engage the top of the bottle 1, thus the plate is securely positioned within the bottle and in alignment with the mouth thereof.
As the swab 5 is inserted into the bottle it passes into the U-shaped plate 8 through the constricted portion 9, and asit is with drawn this constricted portion scrapes against it and removes thedrip or surplus liquid therefrom.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, a handle, a rod depending from said handle, a swab, a plate in said swab, a hook formed on said rod adapted to extend through said swab and said plate.
2. In a device of the class described, a bottle, a handled stopper, a rod depending from and connected to said stopper, a swab secured to the end of said rod, and a U shaped plate mounted in said bottle between which said swab is adapted to be inserted.
3. In a device of the class described, a bottle, a stopper for said bottle, means con nected to and depending from the stopper adapted to be inserted'in the bottle, a swab attached to saidmeans, a U-shaped plate mounted within the bottle adapted to restrict the "passage of the swab therethrough,
means secured to the bottom of said plate extending to the sides of the bottle and en'- gaging samefor holding the plate in position and means secured tothe bottom of the plate and extending upwardly to engage the top of the bottle for positioning same in alignment with the mouth of said bottle.
4. In a device of the classdescribed, a bottle, a handledstopper, a rod depending from said handle, a swab secured to the end of said rod, and a U shaped plate mounted in said bottle between which said swab is adapted to be inserted, said plate having a constricted portion adjacent the top thereof.
5. In a device of the class described, a bottle, a handled stopper, a rod depending from said handle, a swab, a plate in said swab, a hook formed on said rod adapted to extend through said rod and said plate, and a U shaped plate having a constricted upper portion mounted in said bottle between which said swab is adapted to be placed.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature.
