Description

I. L. LYANDI'S. w Combined lroning-Buard a nd Step-Ladders. 1 153 7 ,PatentedJan.12,1875.
WITNESSES j H g 'NVENTOR #TIQR To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES ISRAEL. n LANDIS, OF LANCASTER. PENNSYLVANIA.
, IMPROVEMENT m coMBmEo" 'fi'omNe B ARos AND STEP-LA'UDERS.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 158,718,:datad January 12, 1875; application filed December 19, 1874.
Be it known that I, ISRAEL L. LANDIs, of
Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 09mbined Ironing-Board and Step-Ladder; and do hereby declare that the tbllowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification. I ,The nature of my invention consists in the construction 'and arrangement of a combined ironing-board'andstep 'ladderms will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art.
to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, iu'which- I Figure 1 is a'perspective view of my combined ironing-board and step-ladder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the under side of the top step of the step-ladder. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the large end of the ironing-board,
- and Fig.4 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A represents an ordinary ironing-board, constructed inany ot' the known and usual ways.
In the center, near the larger end, of the ironing-board A, lS pivoted a board, B 0, one end of which is made of suitable size for ironing shirt-bosoins, and the other end, 0, for'ironing sleeves. The-board B rests upon a collar or washer, a, through .which the pivot b passes, the collar or washer being of suitable thickness to elevate the board B U sufliciently above the ironing-board to allow the goods to pass underneath. At therear end of the iron.- ing-board A, on the under side, are fastened two plates, d d, each provided with an outwardly-projectingpin, t, to form the connection with thestep-ladder.v Drcprescnts the means of L-shaped flanges or castings 7b h,
from the rear ends of which project ears m m, one of which is perforated and the other slotted, as shown in Fig. 2, for the insertion of the pins 2' 'i of theironing board. E is the back frame or leg of the step-ladder, hinged or pivoted to the castings h h. edge of the bottom step of the ladder I) is hinged abrace, G, the outer endof which is', by cords f f, connected with the back frame E, to hold the same at a proper anglewhen the ladder is in use. On each side of the laddcr D, at theupper end, is pivoted a leg, H,
.and the lower ends of said legs are connected by a cross-bar, I. g
When the ironing-board is to be used the legs H H are thrown down and the step-ladder placed in the position shown in Fig. 1. The braceG is raised to rest on the edge of the bottom step. The pins t of the ironingboard are then inserted in the cars m m, and the board supported upon the end of the brace G, as shown. I
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv. The combination of the ironing-board A, provided with the pivoted bosom and sleeve board B C, and plates (1, with pins 2', the ladder D, back frame E, legs H Id, brace G, and castings h with cars at, all constructed sub- ?tantially as and for the purposes herein set orth.
" In testimony thatlclaim the foregoingl v 'A. O. ltEINoEuL.
