Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR M. OOBURN, OF BEAVER FALLS, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAME-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,628, dated January 12, 1875; application tiled November 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR M. OOBURN, of Beaver Falls, Beaver county, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Hame-Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, refy erence being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my hamefastener, and Fig.,2 is a side view.
My invention relates to the fastening by which harnes of harness are clasped together at the bottom when put upon the collar 5 and it consists in providing one haine with an adjustable link, adjustable by means of hooks and aguard, and the other end or hame with a pivoted cam-lever, which engages the adjustable link and fastens the hame.
In the drawing, A and A represent the two llames of a harness. Upon the lower end of the hame A is a plate, B, firmly secured to the Wooden part of the llame by screws, or otherwise. Upon the outer side of plate B are hooks a, projecting backwardly, and the end of the plate B extends beyond the end of the llame and returns backwardly over the hooks a, and is secured to itself, forming a guard, O. Within this guard is a ring or link, D, which may be hooked in either of the hooks a, or remain in the bent end of the plate B.- Upon the lower end of the haine A is a plate,
` B', also rnily secured tothe hame,l Upon `the outer end of the plate B are two ears,
between which is hung, upon a pivot, the camlever H. This cam-lever consists of a fuloruin at the pivot and a short arm bent backwardly, and a long arm upon the outer side, and is so constructed and arranged that the force exerted upon the hooked short arm will keep the long. arm snug to the hame.
The operation of my device in securing harnes is as follows: After the link D is placed in the hook most suitable to make the haine lfit the collar of the horse, the long arm `of the lever H is .extended forward and thrust through the link D, and the end of the haine Al is forced toward the haine A until the long arm of lever H reaches so far around as to allow the force upon the short arm to pass the fulcrum, when the short arm draws the long arm against the plate B', and the haine is fastened.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The link D and the guarded hooks a in combination with the cam-lever H, substantially as set forth. l
The above specification of my said invention signed and witnessed at Beaver Falls this 5th day of March, A. D. 1874.
OSC-AR M OOBURN.
