Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. MYERS AND SAMUEL SPIOER, OF GOODRICH, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAME ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,860, dated January 19, 1875; application filed May 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, JAMES H. MYERS and SAMUEL SPIGER, of Goodrich, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Hame Attachments 5 and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a front view, and Fig. 2 is a side View, of our hame attachment. Fig. 3 is a detail View.
This invention has relation'to hame attachments; and it consists in a slotted and perforated clip, which is pivoted to the front' side ofa hame, in combination with a tug-iron, which is curved at its front end and pivoted to the said clip, so that it can be adjusted up or down,
to adapt the line of draft to the largest or smallest horses, as will be hereinafter explained.
The following is a description of our improvements In the annexed drawings, A designates a hame. D designates a hame attachment or clip, which is a piece of metal having several i the back side thereof.
It will be seen that we apply the clip D to the front side of the hame at an intermediate point between its inner and outer edges, by
The perforations d are arranged one'above the other, and are designed to receive the pivotal end of a trace-iron, E, to which the trace is permanently secured. Said pivotal portion of the trace-iron is adapted to be received into either one of said perforations, according to the size of the horse, and is provided witha nut, h, for keeping it in its place. The front portion of the trace-iron is curved, as shown at i, so that it will reach around in front of the hame at or nearly at right angles to the line of draft, thereby drawing squarely against the hame. The slot or loop 6, abor e referred to, will allow the hametug or trace to retain its full strength and shape, when the clip is attached to the tongue by means of chains or straps connected by a strap or otherwise to this looped portion.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The hame-clip D, slotted and perforated, and pivoted to the hame A, substantially as described.
2. A trace-iron, E, curved and adjustably connected to a pivoted clip, D, said clip being provided with the pole-strap loop 6, all substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the above. we have hereunto subscribed our names inthe presence of two witnesses.
JAMES H. MYERS. SAMUEL SPIOER. Witnesses:
