The present invention relates to dolls theprimary object thereof is to provide a j designates double figured "doll and .B, a
double figured doll wherebybothfisides of the doll may be utilized as the front for representing different characters, or like characters in adifferentattire and fac al expression.
Another object of the invention is to provide a double figured doll having its faces rranged in suchf'a mannerwith respect to to simulate a person in a sitting posture, the opposite side willifappear as-if 'kneeling- Other. objects and advantages of. the invention will appear in the following detailedg description, taken in connection withthe ac- :companying drawlngs, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the'v ews, andin which;
drawings:
Flgure: 1 1s a the doll, the doll; being, shown in a -,kneeling position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the doll as shown in Figure l and showing a portion of the attire disposed at the opposite side of the doll.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the character as disclosed at the opposite side of the doll, the doll being shown in a sitting posture.
Figure 4 is a vertical section showing the manner in which the legs are formed to permit of a swinging movement.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary elevation showing the manner of construction at the joint between one of the legs and body portion.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary elevation showing the manner of construction at the joint between one of the arms and body portion. 7
Figure 7 isa fragmentary top plan showing the joint between one arm and body portion.
In the example as shown, the doll may represent Cinderella, sadly dressed in rags on one side and happily dressed in silk on the other side, with facial expressions accordingly. This has been shown by way of example; but it is to be understood that the clothes and hair may be changed in accord- .front elevation of one of t the characters asdiscl-osed, at, one,; s1 de of ance with. the character to be illustrated. Referring to. the drawings in detail,
Thedo1l-A consists of two pieces of-fma terials 10 and 11 such ascloth' or. thehke cut to. the desired; shape and; sewed together along their marginal. edges. A small port1on ,,of the pieces 10 and ll Lmay be,.. left 'unsewed in order to fpermit the reversing thereof and toenable the placingof a filler.
12, i such as cottonv batting in the a doll for the shapingpthereofg Each of thepieces 1O and 11 have faces stamped or otherwise delineated on theh ead portions thereoffso that when the doll is filled, the head J3 will be, formed with two diametrically,disposed faces. i i
The. legs 14 of, the torso or body 15 havc the feet 16 Y thereof disposed in, oppositely, extendingrelation to, one. another with the heel portions adjacent one anotheras clearly shownin'Figures 2 and 3. Astitchinglg' extending atja rightangle to. the major. axis of 'thelegs 14L and at afpoint adjacent the;
crotch 18, forms a hinge' which permits of the legs to be swung in either direction as shown in dotted lines in Figure 4:. It can therefore be seen that by so disposing the feet in oppositely extending relation to one another, the legs 14 will lie flat when swung in either direction.
The arms 19 are stitched as at 20 for providing a hinge in order that the arms may also be swung in either directionas is shown by the dotted lines in Figure 7. T his stitching 20 extends at an angle to the major axes of the arms 19 for permitting the arms to be placed behind the doll or in its lap.
These stitches 17 and 20 pass through the filler 12 and stitch together the pieces 10 and 11 as clearly shown in Figure 4.
The hair or wig 21 which is parted in the center and falls over each shoulder of the doll, may be made with one portion curled as at 22 and the other portion straight as at 23. These portions 22 and 23 may divide just above the shoulder; the curled portion falling over the, garment portion 0 and the straight portion falling over the garment portion D. It; can be seen that by so parting the hair as at 24, a free space will be left for each face of the doll as there is no back to the wig.
It will be observed that by so arranging the faces with respect to the legs, which are capable of swinging movement back and forth from a soft body, that the doll when arranged to simulate a person sitting in one position, the opposite side will appear as if kneeling.
l Vhile one character has been shown by way of example, it is to be understood that the faces and wearing apparel may vary in accordance with the character to be illustratedo Changes in detail may be made withoutdeparting from the spirit or scope of my invention; but,
I claim:
1. In a doll having its head provided with two dian'ietrically disposed faces, a pair of legs hingedly connected to the body of the doll and capable of being swung to 8X tend in substantially right angular relation to either face of the torso of the doll, said legs having the feet thereof permanently disposed in oppositely, outwardly extending relation to one another 2. A doll comprising a body, a head, diametrically disposed faces provided on the head of the body, a two part wig for the head comprising two differently formed portions, said wig being parted centrally of the head with unlike portions overhanging opposite sides of the body of the doll, arms hingedly connected to the body, and le 's hingedly connected to the body havingthe feet thereof disposed in oppositely and outwardly extending relation to one another and with the heel portions adjacent one an other, said faces arranged in such relation with respect to the legs so that when the doll is arranged to simulate a person in a sitting posture at one side, the opposite side will appear as if kneeling.
3. As an article of mainifacture a wig for a two faced doll, comprising two unlike portions simulating hair, parted at the sides and trailing off at each front of the doll, with the trailing sections of each portion concealed from one front of the doll by the opposite trailing sections and by the shoulders of the doll.
4. As an article of manufacture a wig for a two faced doll, comprising two portions simulating hair, parted at the fronts and trailing off at the sides for providing a free space for permanent exposure of each face of the doll, and parted at the sides and trailing off at each front of the doll, for exposure at the front of each shoulder of the doll.
5. A doll having its head provided with two diametrically opposite faces, a pair of legs hingedly connected to the body of the doll and capable of being swung to extend in substantially right angular relation to either face of the torso of the doll, said legs having the feet thereof pern'ianently disposed in oppositely, outwardly extending relation to one another, and a pair of arms normally disposed with the hand simulations thereof in either of the lap portions of the doll and being); so connected to the main body whereby they may be swung to either side of the main body.
