UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BLOOMFIELD BROWER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN sPoNcE-cuPs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,620, dated January 1.2, 1375; application filed October 1, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, BLooMEIELn BEoWER, of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sponge-Cup,
of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of a cap or cover, open at the front, with the sponge-cup, to prevent the spattering ofthe ink when the penis wiped or cleaned on the sponge; and, further, in the arrangement of an internal lip or projection around the top of the cup to confine the sponge in its proper place.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure vI represents a front view of a sponge-cup embodying my invention. Fig. II is a cross-section of the same.
A is the sponge-cup, vmade of any desired shape and size, on the top of which an internally-projecting lip or ange, O, is made, running all around the cup, and whereby the sponge S will be confined in its place in the cup A, and prevented from being pushed out or pulled out of the cup during the operation of rubbing the pen over its surface. Above the lip or projection O a cap, B, is arranged,
open on the front, to enable the sponge being inserted into and taken out of the cup whenever required, and at the same time to allow the free inserting of the pen for the purpose of wiping or cleaning the same upon the sponge S. This cap or covering B prevents anyr spattering of the ink during the process of wiping the pen on the sponge, as Well as of any superfluity of water which may be contained in the sponge. The cup A, lip or projection O, and cap B are all made to form one continuous part without either one or the other part being fastened to the remaining parts.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a spongecup, A, having an internal lip or projection, O, around its upper part, and a cap or cover, B, open on the front, all made in one piece, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
