WINDOW SHIELD,
Application filed. November 7, 1924. Serial No. 748,336.
My invention relates to window shields, particularly adapted for use on windows.
The objects are to provide a shield of simple and durable construction which, when used with an open window, will allow fresh air to enter but will not allow rain to pass through the window, and to provide a shield which may be adjusted to fit any size of window, may be quickly knocked down for transportation and quickly secured in position.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a window having my invention thereto,
Figure 2 an enlarged section on line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2 illustrating the parts moved in another position.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a window frame and 2 a sash slidable therein; 3 a pair of side plates, each having an angle member 4 secured thereto for attaching the plates to thewindow frame by a. pin and slot connection 5 and 6, and 7 a front plate slidably, swingably and detachably connected at its side edges with the edges of the side plates 3. Front plate 7 is made up of a pair of adjustable sections 8 and 9. Section 8 has its upper and lower edges bent to form grooves in which the edges of section 9 slide. The side edges 11 of each of the sections 8 and 9 are spirally curved and are slidably, swingably and detachably connected with correspondingly curved edges 12 of side plates 3.
To assemble the side plates 3 and sections 8 and 9, section 9 is slid in the grooves 10 in section 8 and the spirally curved edges 11 of the sections are slid into the spirally curved edges 12 of the side plates. The shield is then ready to be attached to a window.
To attach the shield, it is merely necessary to slip the slot 6 over pin 5 and allow the shield to slide downward into the position shown in Figure 1 so that the lower edge of front plate 7 will rest adjacent the edge of the window sill. Any inaccuracy in the construction of the shield, which might affect its fit on the window, may be overcome by shifting and sliding the parts of the shield until they fit neatly in position. The connection between the front and side plates will allow a swinging and sliding movement of the plates relatively to each other and the front plate sections will allow endwise movement of the shield.
A shield in this position will allow fresh air to pass under the sash 2 and over the upper edge of the front plate. The rain will fall upon the front plate and will flow downward over the edge of thesill.
The shield above described may be quickly taken apart for transportation; may be quickly set up and attached for use and is flexible to it any size window and compensate for any inaccuracy in manufacture.
lVhile I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2-- l. A device of the character described including side plates adapted to be attached to a window frame and having spirally curved edges, and a front plate having spirally curved side edges slidably swingably and detachably fitting the spirally curved edges of the side plates and adapted to form a shield against weather.
2. A device of the character described including side plates adapted to be attached to a window frame and having spirally curved edges; a front plate section having its upper and lower edges bent to form grooves and its side edges spirally curved and fitting the curved edge of one of the side plates, and another front plate section slidably fitting within the grooves and having its edge spirally curved and slidably fitting the curved edge of the other side plates, said front plates being swingable on and detachable from the side plates.
