T. SWANSON STRIKE BOARD Filed Nov. 22, l924 INVENTOR ATTORNE Y WITNESS:
Patented May 18, 1926.
THORSTEN SWANSON, OF HOQUIAIVI, WASHINGTON.
STRIKE BOARD.
Application filed. November 22, 192-4.
My present invention pertains to the finishing of cement sidewalks; and it has for one of its objects to provide a strike board for finishing sidewalks capable of being used for the accomplishment of finished wort by a single workman, the board bein adapted to be conveniently moved forwardly and sidewise by workmen standing at one side of the walk.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a strike board susceptible of adjustment so as to be used to advantageby either a right handed workman or a left handed workman.
Another object is the provision of a strike board of such construction that the board proper can be'readily replaced with a new board when occasion demands.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification Figure 1 is a top plan view of the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Figures 2, 3 and i are enlarged detail sections taken in the planes indicated by the lines 2-2, 33 and l4, respectively.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the views of the drawings.
Among other elements my novel strike board comprises a board proper 1, preferably of fir wood, the said board being provided at its upper edge with a longitudinal central rib 2 which may be formed integral with the board 1 or may be fi edly connected thereto in any appropriate manner.
I would also have it understood that the' wood of the board proper is preferably used with the grain vertical and is boiled in linseed oil prior to use. I would also have it understood that the rib 2 may be made either of wood or metal within the purview of my invention.
Surmounting the board 1 and connected by screws 3 or other appropriate means thereto are flanged arcuate members at and 5 which are provided in their upper flanges with apertures 6.
Fixed as best shown in Figure 3 to the rib Serial No. 751,612.
2 are eye-bolts 6, and connected at 7 to the central portion of the rib 2 is a metallic plate 8 at the forward end of a handle 5) which may be of wood or metal in the discretion of the manufacturer. At 10 the plate 8 is apertured for the passage of bolts ii by which the plate 8 is adjustably connected to the arcuate members 4: and 5 for the convenient positioning of the handle relative to the board proper.
F or the purpose of strengthening the connection between the board proper and the handle, I provide a member 12 clamped 011 the handle, and brace rods 13 and 14 interposed between and connected to the said clamp member 12 and the eye-bolts 6.
I have specifically described my novel strike board in order to fully disclose the preferred embodiment of the same. I do not desire, however, to be understood as connning myself to the specific construction and relative arrangement of parts as herein set forth inasmuch as modifications may be made within the scope of my appended claim.
. Having; described my invention, what 1' and ash having a series of apertures in the upper most flange, a handle, a plate on the forward end of the handle and fixed with respect thereto, said plate being pivotally connected to the rib and adjustably bolted to the upper flanges of the arcuate numbers.
- In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
THORSTEN SVVANSON.
