COMFORT CHAIR FOR CHILDREN AND INVALIDS.
Application filed September 15, 1925. Serial No. 56,537.
My present invention relates general. to coinrort chairs for the nursery and sick room and more particularly to a comfort chair which, for the stated purpose has ina dependently adjustable back and seat portions within a frame, the construction and arrangen'ient being such as to allow of easy effective adjustments according to the growth of a child and the recovery of an invalid.
The primary obje t of my invention is the provision or a simple effective construction as well as one which will be strong dnrahle and inexpensive.
in the accompanying drawing which illustrates my present invention and forms a part 01 this specification:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my iniprov'ed coini ort chair, and
Figure 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section taken therethrough.
le'ierring now to these ligin'es, my invention proposes a chair of the character specified having a. main frame whose side portions are each provided with front and rear uprights 11 and 12, the former connected by a. cross rod 18 and the latter connected by a cross bar 14 which serves as a hinge bar for both the seat train-e 15 and the 30 back frame 16 in a manner which will be presently described. The two side portions are also connected by a piece 1?", and the upper ends of the uprights 1. of each side portion are connected 18 having integral extensions 1 rearwardly of the rear uprights The forward uprights 11 are also provided with vertical series of apertures 20 adapted to receive adjusting pins these adjusting pins are also adapted extenced into apertures in the side uprigl t 22 of the seat frame 15. This frar e includes an apertured seat board 23 which is s l along its rear edge to the cross or hin 1 1 and is provided alonethe lower surface of its longitudinal edges with rabheted guid bars adapted to receive the flange oi" pan so as to i'eniovably support said pan beneath the aperture of the board E23. At the lower ends of the uprights 22 oi the seat is a transverse foot bar 96 which also forms a connection between, and a brace for, these bars.
The back rest or frame 16 is hingedly connected at its lower edge to the rear edge of the seat board and is adapted to swing wardly and rearwardly between the rails 18 and the these rails.
for-
arin rearward CXtGlISlOHS 19 of This back rest is adjustaoly held by its engagement with a cross piece 2'? ad ustably positioned within the notches 28 ot ad usting bars 29 along the upper surfaces of the extensions It is thus obvious that for invalids in a vi'ealrened state as well as small children, the
front edge of the seat board may be elevated and the back franie laid back, both as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2 and that as the invalid recovers and child grows, ad-
justinent of these parts may be gradua eiiected to hnally seat them in upright tron with the part lly posis as in roll lines.
liiy invention provides a simple efiicient COlnl Ole chair in which the pan 25 is firn'ily 1 old immediately helow the aperture of the seat heart, while readily removable, and
further provides construction which is simple, readily adjustable for the purposes stated, and may be easily maintained in a cleanly, sanitary condition.
1 cl aiin 1. in comfort chair having a main frame including side portions each provided with uprights having vertical series ot apertures, a seat frame hingedly mounted in said main frame, including an apertured seat board and upright inen'ibers adjacent to the said apertured uprigl said upright members also and ad usting pins ext n11 and through the apertures oi lected apert uprights 0 hold po tion.
. A comfort us of the main "he in ain chair having a main frame including side portions each. provided with frantic, including 'hts having vertical series of apertures, frame hlngedly mounted in said niain an apertured seat board and upright members adjacent to the said pertnred uprights oi sin tranie and said u p ight members also having aper res,
and adjusting pins extending through selected apertures of the main frame uprights and through the apertures of said seat trains uprights to hold position, and a cross bar connecting the seat trains in. adjusted the uprights of the seat frame and forming a foot rest as described.
