This invention relates to kiers for bleach-" ing cloth.
Heretofore it has been proposed to provide kiers in which the liquor is forced I through the central pipe upwardly and then down upon the cloth so that the liquor Wlll come in contact with the air and then force through thecloth causing packing of the materials so that when the materials are removed they will contain air, steam and rust and kier stains.
An object of the invention is the provision v of a kiei' in which the liquor is forced in by live steam at the bottom and then through 1 a controlling pipe so that the liquor is blown through the cloth in the bottomof the kier to the extreme top and whereby the'solution does not come in contact with the air before saturating the materials.

This invention will be, best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, in view of the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification; nevertheless it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications which shall define. no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

The figure in the case shows a vertical section of a kier constructed in accordance with the principles of my invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the kier comprises a boiler 10 having a bottom 11 and a cover 12 hinged at 13 on the boiler. A latching mechanism 14. is employed at a. diametrically opposite point on the cover for locking the same to the boiler.
A further object of the invention is the- The bottom 11 is elevated from the lower end of the boiler and is provided with a perforation which receives an inlet pipe 15. This pipe is threaded at its inner end to receive a" nut 16 for locking the pipe in position on the bottom of the kier. A pipe 17 is connected by means of a joint to the pipe 15 and is adapted to supply the solution to the boiler by the operation of the valve 18. A discharge pipe 19 is likewise connected to the pipe 15 and is controlled by means of a valve 20 for permitting discharge of the solution from the boiler.
A block 21 is secured by means of bolts 22 to the bottom 11 of the boiler and is provided with a central passage 23 which is alined with the pipe 15. The block is also provided with a plurality of radial passages 24 placing the lower chamber 25 in communication with the central said block.
A steam nozzle 26 is mounted centrally of the passage 23in the block and has its upper end disposed within a perforated cylinder 27 which forms the controller for admitpassage 23 of v ting thesolution to the material to be treated. 'The nozzle is connected by'means of an elbow and pipes 28, 29 and 30 to a pipe 31 which is in communication with a source of steam under pressure and controlled by a valve 32.
An internally threaded nut 33 is screwed to the top of the block 21 and is provided with a boss 34: adapted to receive a passage end being threaded into the nut 33 and receiving the nozzle'26 in communication with the steam pipe 31. I
The boiler is provided with a plurality of legs 40 having feet 41 which may be secured to the floor of a building so that the boiler 1 is spaced from'the floor to provide for the insertion of the pipes 15 and 30. The operation of my device is as follows: The materials to be treated are placed in the upper chamber 42ofthe boiler and supported by the perforated false bottom 35.
The valve 18 is then opened to permit'the hot solution to be admitted to the chamber from the pipe 15 and through the radial openings 24 until the solution reaches a predetermined level in the boiler. Steam under pressure is admitted through pipe 31 by opening valve 32 and as the steam is forced from the nozzle 26 the solution is carried upwardly and forced through the perforations 38 in the controlling tube 27 thereby causing the solution to be forced upwardly through the materials. By this means the solution not only saturates all portions of the materials and is maintained in circulation but the materials themselves are forced slightly upwardly by reason of the solution being discharged from the perforation 38 at various levels so that the packing of the ma terials is prevented in theboiler.
What I claim is:
1. A kier comprisin a boiler having a block provided with radial passages and a central passage, a pipe connected with the central passage at its lower end for supplying a kier solution, a perforated controlling tube connected with the top of the block and alined with the passage in said block, and a nozzle connected wit-ha source of steam projecting into the lower end of the controlling tube, a perforated false bottom located intermediate the ends ofthe boiler, a nut having threaded engagement with the lower end of the controlling tube and secured to. the
block.
2. A kier comprising a boiler having a block provided with radial passages and a central passage, a pipe connected with the central passage at its lower end for supplying a kier solution, a perforated controlling tube connected with the top of the block and alined with the passage in said block, and a nozzle connected With a source of steam pfojecting into the lower end of the controlling tube, a perforated false bottom located intermediate the ends of the boiler, a nut hav ing threaded engagement with the lower end of the controlling tube and secured to the block, said controlling tube extending above the false bottom, the false bottom being sup ported by the nut.
