Uni/ren STATES Parente oFfFrcE-:f Y y ROBERT W. GERDEL, OF EAST LANSING, MICHIGAN.
POWDER DISPENSER.
Application filed October 1, 1923, Serial No. 665,843. Renewed vlebriiamy 23, 1926;
` Lansing, in the county of Ingham and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in'Powder Dispensers, of which the following is a specification.
My inveiitio-n relates to devices for distributing powdered soap and similar articles in powdered form. ts purpose isV to malte a device that Ashall be simple in construction and reliable in operation, that shall keep the powdered material continually agitated and prevent 'from packing or clogging and tliatsliall 'force out the desired amount at each operation. l
yI attain these purposes by the means shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig.,1 is a vertical section of my device through the center. Fig.2 is a plan View of the upper si-de of the shutoff slide, the section being taken on m-fa Fig. 3 is a plan view from the upper side showing the operation of the mechanism looking from section Y-Y and Fig. 4 is a detail showing the construction ofthe shut-odL slide on section W-W. l
In the drawings, 1 is the main body of my device, which may be of any approved form, construction, or material and is provided at the top with a filling opening 2. It`
is preferably adaptedrto be attached to the wall by a bracket 3. The bottom of the device is closed by a plate 4, provided with opening 5, which connects with Va tube 18, and is closed by a shutoffslide 6 inwhich is an opening 7, above which is an inclined portion 8 of the slide 6. rIhe slide 6, is attached to a shaft 9, which extends through the plate 4, and is provided with a stem'10, actuated by a link 11, and slide 12. An arm 16 is attached to the top of vthe shaft 9 an-d terminates in an agitator 17which extends downwardnearly to theplate 4. The
slide is normally pressed `outward by aI spring 13, and when so pressed outward leaves the opening 5 closed by the shutoff slide 6. This position is shown by the full lines in Fig. 2. yThe slide 12 isr provided with a stop 19 to limit its motion. When the rod 12 is pushed in the slide 6 revolves aii-d the opening 7 passes o-ver the opening' and the inclined member 8 forces the re quired' amount of soa-p down through the opening 5. The plate then passes onward to the position shown by the dotted vlines in Fig.- 2 in which the opening 5 is again closed. As it retreats, however, the' .inclined member 8 operates in the reverse manner and carries the powdered soap away, so that little, if'any more, will go through the opening. Fig. 4 illustrates the position of theparts at the moment'the opening 7 is directly over thel opening 5. rPhe space `below the plate 4 is preferably c losed by a plate 14 which is held. in position by screws 15, passingthrough the plate into the plate 4. y
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent: l 1. In adevice of the character described, in combination with a body adapted to hold a powdered substance and provided at the bottom with a plate having in it a distributing opening, a revoluble slide normally closing said opening, and provided with an opening adapted to pass over said distributing opening whensaid slide is revolved, and having an upwardly and forwardly inclined `member extending over the lopening in said slide, and means Jfor revolving said slide so as to o pen and close said distributing opening. l 2. In a device of the character described, in combination with a body adapted to hold a powdered substance and provided at the bottom rwith a plate having in it a distribut-r i ing opening, a revoluble slide normally closing said opening, and provided with an opening adapted to pass over said distributing opening when said slide is revolved, and having an upwardly and forwardly inclined member extending over the opening in said slide, means for. revel-:ing said slide so. as to open and close said distributing openingand an agitator in said body connected so as to revolve with said slide.
3. In a device of the character described, in combination with a body adapted to hold a powdered substanceand provided at the Q i Y 1,583,139
bottom with a plate having in it a distribntmeans for revolving said Slide so as to open ing opening, a revoluble slide normally olos-k and close said distributing` opening; an agi ing said opening; an opening adapted to tator in said body Connected so as to revolve 10 pass over. said distributing opening when with said slide and a spring for retaining 5 said slide is revolved, and having an uptlie said slide normally in the closed posi- Wardly and forwardly inclined member eX- tion. i
l tending" 'over the opening in said slide; ROBERT W. GERDEL.
