IMPROVEMENT IN HANGERS FOR PLANT-SHELVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,082, dated December 22, 1874; application filed November 7, 1874.
To all whom t't may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM Hrees, of Washington Mills, in the county vof Oneida and State ot' New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hangers for Plant- Shelves, Ste., of which the following is a specitication:
Figure l is a side view of my improved hanger, illustrating its use. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved hanger for attachment to windowcasings, walls, Ste., to support shelves to re ceive plants and other articles, constructed to be conveniently taken down and put up upon nails or screws, and which shall be sirnple in construction and inexpensive in manufacture. The invention consists in an improved shelf-hanger, made of a single piece ot` wire, bent into the general form ot a rightangled triangle, with a prong or fork formed ot' its end or ends at the lower end of its perpendicular, and a loop formed at the upper end of its perpendicular, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the hanger, which is made of a single piece of wire bent into the general form of a right-angled triangle. The ends of the wire meet at the right angle of the triangle, are twisted together, and project downward at a little distance from each other, so as to form an open loop or fork, a1,to receive a nail lor screw driven into the window-casing or wall; or one or both of said ends may project downward to form a prong to enter a staple driven into the wall or easing. The wire A at the upper angle is bent over and passes down vertically for a little distance before it inclines outward to form the hypotenuse ot' the triangle, so as to form a loop, a2, to be passed over a nail or screw driven into the window-casing or walls, and which said nail or screw should have so large a head that the loop a2 cannot draw oit' said head, but can only be detached by being raised upward. At the angle between the hypotenuse and base the hypotenuse may be vertical for a little distance above the base, as shown in Fig. l, to form a better seat for the shelf.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved shelf-hanger, A, made of a single piece ot' wire, bent into the general form of a right-angled triangle, with a prong or fork, al, formed of its end or ends at the lower end of its perpendicular, and a loop, a2, formed at the upper end ot' its perpendicular, as hereinafter fully described.
