FRANCIS C. HAMILTON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DROP-LIGHT GASALIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 58,068, dated December 2'2, 1874; application filed November 14, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS C. HAMILTON, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Slide or Drop- Light Gasaliers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable tion and arrangement of devices for binding the adjustable tube at any position, said devices comprising metallic springs attached to the upper end of said tube, and holding antifriction rollers, Which, through the pressure of said springs, are caused to impinge against the inner surface of the casing or main pipe of the gasalier.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the main tube or casing of the gasalier or chandelier to which my invention is applied. B is a ring, carrying branches, Which are supplied through tube A. G is a short threaded section, screwed into the bottom of ring B, and carrying a stuing-box, D, containing a rubber collar, d, and suitable packing e. E
designates the central and adjustable tube, to the upper end of which are secured the depending' and diverging springs el, holding each a hanged anti-friction roller, c2, held in contact with the inner surface ofthe casing. The tube E is threaded at e3, and holds an adjustable ring, f, by means of which the tension of the springs may be obviously regulated, and the rollers made to bind more or less, as circumstances require.
I do not claim, broadly, the employment of the springs Within the casing-pipe, and attached to the center pipe of an eXtension-chan delier, as the same have already been used; but I limit the scope of my claim to the einployment, in combination with the springs, of the anti-friction rollers attached to their outer ends.

The combination, with the stationary casing-pipe A and internal sliding tube E, of the springs el, attached to the upper end of the latter, and carrying the rollers e2, impin ging upon the inner surface of the casing.
