Description
c. M. VAN EVERY.
Plows.
No.157,892V Ptentednemsmm.
INVENTOR z f v vl im??? ATTonNEYs.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHAUNGEY M. VAN EVERY, OF BRON SON, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLows.
Specification-forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,892, dated December 15, 1874; application liled October 10, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAUNGEY M. VAN EVERY, of Bronson, in the county of Branch and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flows, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure lis a longitudinal sectional elevation of a portion of a plow-beam and plates, and Fig. 2 is a plan of Fig. l inverted.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the beam; B, the plow-standard; C, the horizontal plate on the top of it, and D the plate attached to the beam. rlhe latter plate has dowel-pins F to hold it strongly against being turned horizontally on. the beam, and it has near one end a concave and under-out liange or wall, Gr, with vertical notches or serratious, in which corresponding points on the end of the plate C fit, while at the other end of plate D it is rounded and itted in a concave and under-cut shoulder, E, of plate C, all so that when both plates are attached to the beam A by a single bolt, J, the plow will be lirmly but detachably secured, so that it can be shift-ed readily at any time to alter the lead of the beam merely by unt'astening a single bolt. The under-cut shoulder G holds the standard against the tendency of the backward strain on'the plow to strip it olf from the bolt, and the other under-cut connection at the front has the saine effect when the plow is pulled forward. The serrations at Gr may be on the top ofthe plate o and bottom of plate D, and the undercut shoulder or clutch thereat may be dispensed with, if preferred. Two coupling-bolts may be used to fasten the plates together and to the beam, one passing through the slot in plate c.
I am aware that the principle of adjusting the beam laterally on the plow-standard, in connection with the extension of it back to the handles, and laterally-adjustable connection thereto, is not new: and I do not claim broadly the connection of the beam so as to be adjusted laterally.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-'- The combination, with standard B, having the cap C, notched at H, the screw J and the apertured beam A, of the plate D, notched and serrated at G, and having top studs F F, as and for the purpose described.

M. MORRILL, SoLoN C. KEMON.
