My invention relates to anim-provement in towel cabinets suitable for use with both in'- n dividualv andjrolled towels, and which is characterized by the fact that 'whenvthefiir dividualtowelsare employed the standard locked andremoved with the greatest pos# sible expedition to the end that the number of cabinets which 'may be served by an atpractice. Y l Y A In cabinets 'as now constructed, the atf standard for the individual towels.
lInasmuch as cabinets of this character as a general rule are furnished by the towel supplyconcern and asit is Yfreopaently' necessary to utilizediierent kinds of towels .or to change the cabinet from a customer desiring individual towels to onedesiring a rolle-d Vtowel, or to one using both, I haveconceived that it will Vbe of material" advantage toV 'such towel supply concerns it the cabinet f without detracting .from its appearance is `adapted to use bothtypes of towels, and in addition thereto to furnish ample space in Fig. 2 is a front elevation ot the cabinet a supplied with rolled towels. t
Fig. 34 is a sectional detail View through the hinged edge portion of the 'upper shelf showing the lock casing in position.
Similar reference numerals referto similar parts throughout .the drawings.
In the embodiment of myinvention illustrated, `I show a. cabinet comprising short front legs 1 and 2 connected respectively by .topf and'bottom'side bars, Sand 4: with high back legs 5 and 6." `Therontlegs are cross4 connectedk top and bottom by.anupper bar 'tfV and-a'lower barS, and the jrear legs are cross-fbracedbya lower bar 9, an upper bar v10, and-two spaced, top bars llandl2: Ver-" v tical slats 13 conne-ct'the, upper and' lower? cross -bars,'-and` vWith'bottom'slats 14,310011.-

The chain :shownrv has cured` at its `lower end `a weighted 7ball 27 larger thanvthe'grommets Vin the individual towels 28 so thatthe latter lcannot be de tach'ed from the chainuntil post is unlocked and removed :tromfthe lock 'casing`2 4. The arrangementof the shelves 19gand-21ris such'as' to afford between them convenient compartmentf29 in which toilet articles 3Q can be 'placedwhenfthe vcabinet-is used 4for individual towels, as shown in Fig. A1.-
1When, however, it is desired to use 'the roe cabinet for krolled towels 31, the `.latter are mounted on a spring bar 82 attached tothe undersideiotthe bottom 19,7the freeendl of' the'bar" being adaptedfto catch in a hanger` 33 'from ywhich it can' be readily diserrgaged for thefremiovaly and replacement ofthe ftowtowel compartment.
els. When rolled towels are used, the toilet articles can be played upon the shelf 21 and the rolled towels stored in the compartment 29, the post 25 being, if desired, unlocked yandl with its chain 26' removed from the cabinet. In this manner the cabinet can be used with different kinds of vtowels and it will thus constitute a universal cabinet for the commercial towelservice.
In use the individual towels 28 when used are packed in quantity with a guide through their gron'nnets. They are placed ,on the upper shelf with the grommets overhanging and asfthe guide is removed the post 25 is kpassed down'through the grommets and then is inserted and locked in the casing 24 `with .ticularity the details. of the embodiment of vthe invention herein shown, it is not to be construed that am limited thereto, as 'changes in arrangement and substitution of equivalentsmay bemade by those skilled in the art without departing from the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desiretosecure by Letters Patent, is
. l. A towel cabinet of the character described, comprising v"a stand having a shelf with its forward edge portion hinged to fold over upwardly, and a lock means adapted to receive an individual towel post and carrier mounted in the forward hinged edge por'- t-ion of the shelf, said lock means having a bottom key hole adapted to be exposed when the hingedy shelf edge and post are folded rearwardly. Y I
2. A towel cabinet as set forth in claim'l, in which the towel post extends upwardly at such an angle and 'is so disposed that it will lie upon the rear portion o-f the shelf when the hinged portion of the shelf is folded upwardly. y
3. A towel cabinet of the character described, comprising a` stand having spaced shelves forming between i them a storage compartment, the upper shelfhaving its for-V ward edge portion hinged to' fold upwardly, and a lock means adaptedto receive an individual towel post and carrier mounted in the outer h ingededge portion of the upper shelf, the t lock means having a bottom keyv hole adapted to be exposed when the hinged shelf edge and post are folded rearwardly.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature.
