Application med' August 2;{1924-seria1 Naveen-13.1;
`T anatomiamag/@mama Be it yknown thatv I, I-IARRY Monmala citizen of the United States, residing vat This Vinvention relates to improvements in necklaces, and more especially to a complete necklace having a mayor flexible portion consisting of a' string of pearls, beads,
or the like, the ends of said string being fastened together by an ornamental part or parts, as will vbe described more in detail hereinafter. -There also may be provided y a clasp by which the necklace may be opened.
My improved necklace is vso designed that Y it is attractive and ornamental in appearance Vand will alsoretain a desired position around the neck of the wearer. Inv neck'-l laces, the pearls are frequently graded in size, so that itis desirable to keep the largest pearl thereon in the center at the Vfro-nt of the wearer. It is also often desirable to keep the clasp of the necklace at the back. Necklaces are also often provided with ornamental members adjacent the clasp which yare intended to remain .in theV center at the back of the wearer. It will be seen that in all of such types of necklaces, itis desirable to prevent the necklace from shifting about on the neck of the wearer. InA
my improved necklace this shifting of position of the necklace is` prevented.
Other features and advantages of my invention will appear more fully as I proceed with my specification.
In that formvof deviceembodyingthe features of my invention shown in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a viewy of the complete necklace, Fig. 2 is a view on an enlarged scale of a'portion of the necklace to be described more in detail hereinafter, and Fig. 3 is a view taken as indicated by the line 3, 3 of Fig. 1.
As shown in the drawings. the major 'length or portion of the complete necklace comprises a flexible string of pearls, beads,
A' or the like, as indicated by'lO, l0. 11 is a conventional indication of a clasp at one end of the stringv passingthrough the eye 12. The clasp 11 may be of any desired form sothat the same may be engaged througli r the eye 12 or released therefrom, in order to open the necklace at this point.1 Between as indicatedl 10a, there arel'provided'three -stiff links," thecenter linklbeingindi'ca'ted by 13, and the' end links 'by v14, 14. -Each of the links ,14 is hinged tothe link 13.at
14'?. "Each ylink i's'alsocurved *to conform y to thecurvature ofthe neck ofthe wearer. Y The outer faces of the three links 13,"and *'14, 14, may be ornamented in. any desired manner. These three links, for example, may be ornamented or designed 1n order to resemble a bar pin. Such representatlons of bar pins have been very much in vogue.4
in necklaces of this kind.v The ordinary representation Vof a bar pin, however, is objectionable owingto its length and rigidity. This objection, in the present invention,
however, is overcome by the hinges 1421492 These hingesl aid also in permitting the links 13A and 14, 14,v vto conform to the ycurvature of the neck of the wearer. I'
Theinner surfaces of the links'13 and 14, 14 are concaved' as indicated by15.- (see Fig. 3). Such concavity in the inner'sur`r face of the links assists in lretaining 'the' or cHIcAGo,' 1LLInoIs, Assis-Non To incanta-MANN dREILLY, or z.
'the Clasp 11am al" yother macetas-String necklace inthe Yproper position on the wearer; The flesh of the wearer vprojectsl into such cavities thus preventing the slipping of the links. If the .links are made flat, they will not pressinto. the flesh of quently` lslip varound more easily.'
The Vthree links 13 and 14, with the clasp member l11 .virtually form Vthe entire fclasp. Thatv is, the threehinged links areto be considered as apart of the the three links 13, 14v and 14 which make vthe clasp ornamental. For example, as has been stated before, the clasp may resemble ya' bar pin. It is to be noted that lthe three links 13, V14 and 14 arev fashioned so that ses f the wearer to such an extent'y and will conse- 14 together clasp, as this word is used in its general they form a unitary structure, such unitary structure here'resembling a bar pin forming a part of the entire clasp. I-Ieretofore when clasps haverthus been` made' in they form of` a bar pin, or any resemblance to the bar pin Ait'has been found that the part of thejclasp resembling the bar pin, because of its length, would not easily and naturally conform "to necks of different curvature.l VThis objection` has 'been overcome inthe ,Q A Y Y l 1,578,461
present device by making thellong member of the clasp which here resembles 1a barf-pin of three sections hinged together.
While I have shown and described certain' embodiments.' of myinvention, it iis Vto "bevv understood that i'tflis /ca'pable'fof inanyfmod-ications.
