To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, RICHARD MooNnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Henryetta, in the county of Okmulgee and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Coir structions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to door constructions, and more particularly to a garage doorconstruction.
An object of the'invention is the provision of a door construction consistingof double doors,that is relatively simple and durable.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means for locking the doors of a garage or similarbuilding in opened or closed position.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of means for operating the latching mechanism. v

In constructing the door, I. provide a frame adaptedto fit the opening in the building and consisting of vertical end members 1 spaced from each other a distance equal to the width of the double doors. These members may be formed of channel iron or the like and are provided with front and rear flanges 2 and 3. The lower ends of the end members are adapted to be received in a body of concrete 4 to rigidly support them As shown, the frame of the door is assembled before beingplaced in position and the end members connected by a lower member 5. At the top, the end members'are connected by a transverse member 6. After the frame has been constructed a ditch is formed across the door-way or opening in the building, and the frame placed in position. The door is provided with suitable latchvertical members 7, slightly spaced from the are mounted on these posts and rotate about them as plvots." As shown, plates 10 are connected to the rear sides of the door and these plates carry sleeves 11 which are adapted to receive the posts. The lower portion of each post is enlarged, as at 12 (see Figure 1-) to substantially the same diameter as the sleeve'and above the top of the sleeve, the post is surrounded by a spacing member 13. The end members 1 and the vertical mem bers 7 are adapted to support horizontally arranged plates 14 which are provided with curved inner edges 15. These plates are provided with openings 16 and'17, adjacent their front and rear edges.

As shown, a lever 20 is pivotally mounted on a pin 21 and arranged on the inner side of the door. This lever extends substantially the entire width ofthe door and is adapted to oscillate within a guide 22. A link 23 is secured to one end of the lever. A pin 24 is arranged in the door and the projecting portion thereof is provided with suitable operating handles'25. This pin carries a pair of cranks 26 adapted to be connected to the lower end of the link 23. The opposite end of the pivoted lever 20 is connected to a latch pin 27 by means of an eye- 'jacent the lower guide, the latch pin is provided with an enlargement 30 and a coil spring 31 surrounds the latch pin. The lower end of. the coil spring engages the enlargement 30 and the upper end engages the upper collar 29 whereby the latch pin is normally projected and is adapted to enter one of the openings 16 or 17. Coil springs 32 are secured to the inner face of the door and tothe vertical members 7 and are adapted to normally retain the doors in closed position. The front of one of the doors may be provided with the usual staple 33, adapted to receive a hasp 3& carried by the other door section and a padlock 35 may be arranged in the staple to lock the doors in closed position.
Additional means may be provided for retaining one of the doors in closed position. As shown, locking rods 36 may be secured to eye-bolts 37 mounted in the vertical member 7 and these rods are provided with depending ends 38 adapted to be received in openings formed in braces 39 on the rear face of the door.
The operation of the device will be ap parent from the foregoing description. After the padlock 35 has been removed, the door section to the right in Figure 1 of the drawings, may be opened by turning the knob to raise the latch pin 27 from the opening 16. The door is then swung to a substantially quarter revolution and the pin enters the opening 17 to retain the door in the open position shown in dotted lines in Figure 2 of the drawings. This prevents the door from blowing closed while the automobile is being driven from the garage. The rods 36 are then released from the other door and it is opened in the same manner. The doors are thus retained in opened position when desired and as soon as the latch pins are released from the openings 17, the springs move the doors to their closed position.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim.
1. A device of the character described comprising a door frame, a door pivoted at a point spaced from one edge thereof to said frame, the opposite edge of said door being adapted to swing toward and away from said frame, a lever pivoted intermediate its ends to said door, one end of said lever being arranged adjacent the first named edge of said door, a latch arranged adjacent the first named edge of said door and connected to the adjacent end of said lever to be operated thereby, and a latch plate carried by said frame, said plate being provided with an opening to receive said latch.
2. A device of the character described comprising a hollow door frame, a pivot pin arranged ad acent one edge of said door edge of said frame in the open side thereof, a door connected to said pivot pin, one edge of said door projecting outwardly from said frame, the opposite edge of said door extending beyond said pivot pin into said frame, a latch plate arranged in said frame and secured to 'the walls thereof, said latch plate being provided with openings arranged concentric with said pivot pin, and a latch carried by said lastnamed edge of said door and adapted to engage within the openings in said latch plate.
4. A device constructed in accordance with claim 3 provided with a lever mounted against one face of said door and pivotally connected intermediate its ends thereto, one end of said lever being arranged adjacent the outwardly projecting end of said door, the other end of said lever projecting beyond said pivot, pin to a point adjacent the opposite end of said door and being connected to said latch.
A device of the character described comprising a door frame including a plurality of side walls arranged substantially in rectangular form, two of the adjacent walls of said frame terminating at points spaced from one corner of said frame to provide an open corner portion, a pivot pin arranged adjacent the open corner portion of said frame, a door connected to said pivot pin, one edge of said door projecting outwardly beyond said frame, the opposite edge of said door extending beyond' said pivot pin into said frame and contacting with one wall of said frame when said door is in one position, a latch platemounted within said frame adjacent the last-named edge of said door and secured to the walls of said frame, said latch plate having one edge curved and arranged concentric with said pivot pin, the last named edge of said door being provided with a slot into which said plate projects, said plate being provided with openin s arranged concentric with said pivot pin, and a latch carried by the last named edge of said door and adapted to engage within said openings.
