To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, SAMUEL Bnnesrmn and Wnimait C. MIL ER, citizens of the United States, residing at-Middletown, in the county of Butler 'and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes and the like, or which the following is a specification, reterence being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to paper folding boxes, having particular reference to boxes adapted to be arranged to display their contents.

In boxes of this character, which are used in very large quantities, there are underlying conditions which determine their commercial merit, viz, the production cost of the boxes must be minimized to enable the manufacturer to compete in the market to sell his product; the boxes must be convenient to handle, with a minimum of bulk as carried in stock; the. boxes must be convenient to set-up to receive their contents, must be convenient to set-up to display their contents, and must be provided with depcndable means to support them, as on a counter or table, set-up :tor display purposes.

To this end, our improved display box is adapted to be formed from one-piece blanks in which there is little waste of material in cutting the blanks from the paper I sheets or raw stock. vThe boxes are adapted to be made on automatic or send-automatic machinery which have a relatively large output. Thus the production cost of the boxes is low. The boxes are adapted to be handled and stocked KD with a minimum of bulk, are easily set-up for filling, and are provided with a convenient and etlective arrangement for supporting the boxes suitably to display their contents.

Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic illustration of the shape and manner of cutting the box blanks;

Fig. 6 is a detail of interlocking the bottom of the box one portion with another.

- The box blank, as shown in Fig. 1, consists of side portions 12 each having a flap 3 adapted to be folded over the contents of the box as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4:; end portions 4l-5, part 5 having a glue flap 6 by means of which the end is glued to the adjacent side portion 1. Part 5 is further provided with parts. 7-89 which constitute the lid of the box, part 9 being a iap adapted to be tucked in the end of the box as the same is filled and closed; also to be tucked in the opposite end of the box, as illustrated in Fig. l, to adjust the lid to display an flLlVGFtlSQl'HQDlS the box is setup for display. The bottom ol the box closed comprises a part 10 connected to part 1, a part 11 connected to part2, the same being adapted to overlap one another and to bejoined one to the other by means of an interlocking tongue 12 and slots 18 as illustrated in Fig. -(3; part it connected to end part t is also included in the bottom of the box as the same is closed and thus acts to stiffen the bottom.

The main function of part 14, however,

together with a coacting part 15, is to act as a base or pedestal to support the box at a suitable angle, as illustrated in Figs. 4: and 5, to illustrate the contents thereof. To this end, part 15 is provided with opposite tabs 1.i16 and 1717, both sets of tabs being adapted to be. folded flat over part 15 and part 15 to be tucked inside'ot' end 5 when the box is adjusted as in Fig. 3, and to be flared outwardly of part 15 as illustrated in Fig. 4 when the box is adjusted for display purposes, in which relation tabs 16 are disposed at an angle between part 1% and the bottom of the box and act together with parts 1% and 15 to support the box, tabs 15 acting to limit the downward move ment of part 15 by engaging the bottom of the box at opposite corners thereof as part 15 is drawn outwardly to adjust the pedestal.

From the foregoing detailed description, our improved box as a new article of manufacture will readily be understood.

Having described our invention, we claim:

1. A paper box comprising bottom portions adapted to be joined one part to ansaid other, and a part adapted to be adjusted at an angle relative to said parts, said adjustable part comprising a part adapted to be inserted inside an end of the box and to act to limit the outward adjustment thereof, insertable part comprising parts adapted, as said part is adjusted outwardly, to be interposed between said adjustable and said other bottom parts, whereby said box is adapted to be arranged suitably to display the contents thereof.

2. A paper box comprising bottom portions adapted to be interlocked one part with another by a coasting tongue and slots, and a part arranged normally parallel to said inte locked portions and adapted to be adjusted at an angle relative thereto, said adjustable part comprising parts adapted, as said part is adjusted outwardly, to be interposed between said adjustable and said other bottom parts, whereby said box is adapted to be arranged suitably to display the contents thereof.

A paper box comprising bottom portions adapted to be joined one part to another, and a part arranged normally parallel to said parts and adapted to be adjusted at an angle relative thereto, said adjustable part comprising a part provided with tabs and adapted to be inserted inside an end of the box, said tabs acting to limit outward adjustment oi said part, said insertable part also comprising tabs adapted, as said part is adjusted outwardly, to be interposed between said adjustable and said other bottom parts, whereby said box is adapted to be arranged suitably to display the contents thereof.

A paper box comprising bottom portions adapted to be joined one part to another, and a part arranged normally parallel to said parts and adapted to be adjusted at an angle relative thereto, said adjustable part comprisin a part provided with tabs and adapted to be inserted inside an end of the box, said tabs acting; to limit out vard adjustment of said part, and parts, as tabs, (reacting with said adjustable bottom part and. adapted to be interposed between said part and said other bottom parts, whereby said box is adapted to be arranged suitably to display the contents thereof.

5. A paper box comprisingbottom portions adapted to be joined one part to another, and a part arranged norr. ally palallel to and acting to cover said parts outwardly, said cover part being adjustable relative to said other parts, said adjustable part con'iprising a part adapted to be inserted inside an end of the box and to act to limit the outward adjustment thereof, and parts, as tabs, coacting with said adjustable bottom part and adapted to be interposed between said part and said other bottom parts, whereby said box is adapted to be arranged suitably to display the contents theerot.
