Description
March 16 1926., 1,576,912 H. N. JAMES;
LIQUID PITCHER Filed July 31, 1925 INVENTOR.
Patented Mar. id, 1923.
HENRY NEWTON JAMES, OF MIAMI, FLORIDA.
LIQUID PITCHER.
Application filed July 21, 1925. serial 110,47345.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY N. JAMES, a citizen "of the United States, residing at Miami, in the county of Dede and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Liquid Pitcher, 01' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to containers and has special reference to a liquid pitcher.
One important object of the invention is to improve the general construction of devices of this character.
A second important object of the invention is to provide an improved arrangement of pitcher having an internal ice receiving well, the pitcher and well having a com mon closure by which'the well may be sealed from the remainder of the pitcher and both sealed from the atmosphere.
A third important object of the invention is to provide an improved relief valve arrangement for admitting air to the pitcher when it is desired to pour ed the contents.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter ap arent, the invention consists in general 0 certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically' claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Figure I is a perspective view of the in vention.
Figure II is a section therethrough.
l igure III is a detail section showing the mounting for the stopper lever.
The container 1 here shown as a pitcher is in this instance of cylindrical form and is provided with a spout 2 on one side which may be closed by a stopper 3 attached to an ornamental Figure 4: by a chain 5.
Concentric of the outer wall of the container is a well 6 for ice and the top ofthis well is internally threaded to receive the hollow boss 7 of a lid 12 which fits a packing ring 18. .1
This lid has, opposite the spout, a frustoconical opening to receive a plug, l'iconnected by a chain 15 with an ornamental Fi are 16.
his figure is mounted on carried by a handle 18 on the the Figure 16 constitutes a. lever. held in normal position by a spring 19.
a ball joint and removable container and In use the cover is removed and ice is laced in the central well, the liquid to be ispensed being pouredinto the space around the well. The cover is now screwed onto the well until its rim presses the packing There has thus been provided a simple and efiicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, thercfore,'desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. In a device of the kind described, an
outer container, an inner well spaced from the side wall ot the contai.ner, a cover having a boss screwed to the well top and a rim fitting closely against the top. of-the side wall of the container, a spout at one side of the container, a handle at the opposite and described, but it is 4 side of the container, saidover' having a vent opening between the boss and its rim, 4 plugs fitting said spout and vent opening.
2. In a device of the kind described, an outer container, an inner well snaced from the side wall of the container, a cover having a boss screwed to the well to and a rim fitting closely against the top of the side wall of the container, aspout at one side of the container, a handle at theopposite side of: the'container, said cover havinga vent openmg between the Emmy NEWTON JAMES.
int boss and its rim, removablc plu s fitting said spout and vent opening,
