IMPROVEMENT IN FORMING-BLOCKS FOR FUR GOODS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,541, dated December 8 1874; application filed September 12, 1874.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEFTA Iorovrrs, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Forming-Block for Fur Garments, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view of-my improved formingblock for fur garments. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same on the line 0 c, Fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate, corresponding parts.

The object of my invention is to produce an improved forming-block for stretching the waist and back parts of fur garments, so as to impart an enlarged and rounded shape to the samewithout cutting and sewing up the parts. Garments of fur may thereby be worked up more quickly and cheaply.

My invention consists of a forming-block, of pyramidal.shape,resting on its largest side, and having trapezoidal top and bottom sides, and'triangular connecting sides of steeper inclination.

The fur is stretched in wet state over the body of the block, and retained thereon by suitable fastening strips until completely dried.

In the drawing, A represents the formingblock, made of wood, or other suitable material, in the shape of a pyramid, whose largest trapezoidal side, B, forms the base or bottom part of the block. The other trapezoidal side, (J, forms the upper or top part of the block, and is placed at such inclination to the base B as required by the bend of the waist or back fiting parts of fur garments, being supported by an interior stiffening-brace part, D, and the steeply-inclined triangular side walls E. The base B is extended at the apex G to form a tapering edge with less inclination than the top 0, so that the outward curve of the parts formed on the block is produced in a more gradual manner.

The required piece of fur is cut in one continuous piece, and the part to be rounded off stretched in Wet state over the block, from the tapering apex upward.

The fur piece is firmly attached by means of fastening-strips F, nailed to the supportingtable along the base part of the block, and remains thereon until dry.

When the stretched garment has been completely dried it is taken off the block, retain ing the rounded expanded shape of the same, and curving out from the body part of the garment, so as to fit on the waist or back without theexpensive cutting and sewing of these parts. The manufacture of fur jackets, and similar garments, is thereby facilitated, and rendered more expeditious and economical.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A formingblock for producing the curved and rounded-oft waist and backparts of fur garments without cutting and sewing, the same being made in pyramidal form, having broad base B, top side 0, side walls E E, and tapering apex G, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
