WINDOW OPENING AND CLOfiING APPARATUS.
Application filed March 31, 1924. Serial No. 703,279.
Improvements in lVindow Opening; and
Closing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to a window opening and closing apparatus in which the windows are hinged to a frame.
T he object of this invention is to provide a device that is simple in operation, that will admit of the window being opened to almost any desired extent and automatically locked in that position and which is easily operated to close the window tightly and so as to automatically lock it in closed position and which is readily reversible This object is effected by my invention the nature of which and the manner in which it is to be performed are hereinafter particularly described and ascertained, the invention itself being distinctly stated by the claims.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention Figure 1 is a per pect v view of the invention secured to a hinged window and a sill in partially open position, Figure 2 is a plan of the invention showing it in closed and locked position, Figure 3 is a perspective view of part of the device showing it when being manipulated.
The invention comprises a bent link arm 1 the inner end 2 of which is adapted to be pivotally secured by a bracket 3 to a window sill 41. The other end 5 of this aim is provided with a wheel 6 which is adapted to move along an adjusting bar Tin a channel 8 therein, said bar being secured to the lower rail 9 of the window.
To one end 5 of the bent arm 1 is secured a member 10 having a curved extension 11 at one end to which is secured a stop pin 12. About midway of the member 10 is a hole 13 passing therethrough and thioiiigh the part 5 of the arm 1. The other end of the member 10 is rebated so as to form with arm 5 a slot 10 to receive the wheel 6 and the upper portion 1 1 of member 10 is provided with a hole 1 1 which corresponds with a hole 14 in the wheel 6. Through hole 13 and holes 14L and 14 pins 15 and 16 are adapted respectively to reciprocate simultaneously by being secured above to a plate 17. Located near the curved end 11 and on top of member 10 is'a pillar 18 which carries a lever 20 pivotally secured to the upper end 18 of pillar 18 by pivot pin 19. One end of said lever 20 is a thumb piece 21 which in its downward motion is stopped by the stop pin- 12. The other end 22 of the lever 20 has an arm 23 adapted to embrace it and allow some play to the end of the lever. The lower end of this arm is secured to the plate 17. A curved spring 24- has one end 24. secured to the member 10 by the pillar 18 and has its other end 24" shaped to embrace the arm 23. This spring 21- serves normally to keep the pins 15 and 16 respectively home in the holes 13, 14 and 1 1:" as in Figure 1.
A keeper 25, (Figure 1) is provided with a bevel cam edge 26 to enable the pin 15 to slide u it into hole 27, and is secured in appropriate position to the sill 1. The adusting bar 7 is provided with a series of holes 28 adapted to take the pin 16.
In operation the thumb piece 21 is depressed as in Figure 3, thereby raising the pin 15 clear of the hole 27 (Figure 1i in the keeper 25, and thepin 16 clear of the hole 28 in the bar 7. The device may now be manipulated backwards and forwaids and when it is desired to keep the window open in any desired position the thumb' piece 21 is released. and thereupon the pin' 16 engages one of the holes 28 in the bar 7 automatically under the influence of the spring 2a. 7.
When it is desired to lock the window the thumb piece 21 is again depressed and the window drawn to the closed position shown in Figure 2 and on the release of the thumb piece 21 the; pin 15 automatically enters the hole 27 in the keeper 25 under the influence of the spring 24 in which position the window is tightly closed and locked.
before indicated the window is unlocked by depressing the thumb piece 21 which raised pin 15 out of hole 27 in thearm for vertical movement and having a pin ally mounted on said arm and oonneeted to aul plate to raise the latter and pin against the l'OUSiOI) of said spring.
82. Window openingand (losing apparatus romprising a link arm having means at one end to pivotallv mount the same on a: Window sill. an adjusting liar tor attachment to a window and provided with Spaced openings, the tree end of said link arm hein pivotally and slidalvl'y connected to said adjusting bar, a plate mounted on the link arm for Vertieal movement and having a pin to engage any of the opmings oi the adjusting liar a spring exerting its tension on Said plate to normally hold the latter and pin in en :l'agg'ed position. and a lever pivotally mounted on said arm and eonneeted to Wild plate to raise the latter and pin against the tension of said spring, said plate also haviing a locking pin extending tilownwardly through eaid arm, and akeeper plate arranged to he secured on the Window sill and having a. locking: opening for engagement hv said looking pin.
In testimony whereof he attixes his signature.
