LOUIS BIANCHI, OF EEDDING, CALIFORNIA.
SIPHON.
Application filed O'Ctober 13, 1925. Serial No. 62,232.
T0 all 'whom t may concern:
Be ithnoivn that I, Louis Brauen; a
citizen ot the United States, and a resinent of Redding` eountv ot Shasta, and State et California, have invented new and use'lul `Improvements in a Siphon, oit which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the siphoningij oi: Wines from barrels in lfiettlingg` the same. as, Well as to the siphoning` ot' gasoline or other liquid from containers, and the objects et the invention are te provide simple siphen apparatus which easilv operated and Whieh Will effectively start the siphoningoperation Without` applying the tube to the mouth for exhausting); the air therefrom, also such pparatus which Will provide for the priming of auton'iobile engin plugg's with gasoline teilten troni the gasoline tankv and withal article cheap te produce and proof against getting out et order.
My improved siphon embraeinef the above mentioned advantages is shown inthe dran7` ings hereto and in which Figure l is a side view ot mv Complete device and Figure 2 is reduced perspective vieiv showing' the device in platee ready to Siphon `@gasoline trom an automobile `grasoline tanln'and with a portion et the tank broken away to shew the contents.
As shown in the ligures niv improved Siphon consists in its preferred torni ot a rubber bulb 1 having' a rubber tube 2 e3;- tending treni the upper end and a rubber tube 3 'from the loiver end.
These tubes are preterablv7 secured te the bulb by means ot hollow metal or hard rub ber sleeves 4 cemented in place.
rl'he upper tube is provided with a redueingnozzle 5 preferably pushed tighth7 into the tube, and the lower tue is equipped 'with a valve of" Sonie sort-here shown a rubber tube clamping' device G having iaivs 7, 8 adapted to flatten the tube or release` the saine upon operatingihe linger lever E) in the Well lnovvn manner.
Secured to the rubber bulb in some inanner as at l0 is a ivire arm ll extending upward and having a hooked upper end 19. for the Vpurpose ot suspending' the bulb l alongside ot a barrel or tank being siphone'd ed in the manner shown in Figure 2, the Wire arin being hooked over the edge 13 ot` the filling opening of the tank 14 and the tube 2 also passing* over the edite and down inside the tank into the ygasoline l5, while the other tube 3 extends into a bottle lt or ether receptacle which it is desired to fill ivith the liquid.
ln operation. with the device in the position shown in Figure 2 the bulb is squeezed to flatten it, and torce eut all of the air, the clamp (i is closed te prevent return ot air, the bulb is released thereby`- sucking' the liquid trom the tanl te substantially till the bulb and upon agraiu releasing' the clamp (3 the Siphon will start and Continue running' until the Clamp t5 is closed.
In Figure 2 the redueing;n nozzle is not shoivn in place as the siphon works faster when it removed, but Ytor primingY plugs *ith gasoline it is used as it pr vides a betenntrol when ejeetingij a small quantitiv oil the liquid` it being' understood that for such use the tube 2 withdrawn trom the tank a'lter Fillingthe bulb as mentioned, and the gasoline ma)7 be forced out ot the nozzle either bv squnearing;n the bulb l or by elevat ing it and opening the clamp (l to admit air thereto trein the tube 3, er it desired an ad ditional elainp as at (l ma)7 be placed on tube Q :tor additional control.
lu Considering; the invention as described it ivill be seen to provide an extremely7 simple Siphon usetul ter startingi iluids sueh as gasoline, acids, ete., dangerous to start b v sucking; on the siphon tube and more sanitari',7 in the ease et siphoninggl beverages When bottling the saine.
Attention is draivn to the tact that While ft shew and pre'ler a rubber tube at both ends et the bulb, it is manifest that a tube or pipe ot ether material Will also be serviceable in some instances.
l claim:
l. il. siphnn Comprising' a sott rubber bulb `with a tube extendingl troni Opposite ends thereof and provided with means ter suspending' the bulb directly trom a eontainer when siphoningtherefrom and whereby the siphening tube above the bulb is relieved, from the Weight et the bulb.
2. A. siphon Comprising a sott rubber bulb with a tube extending 'from opposite ends thereorn and provided with a hook ter boeking' over the edge ot a container, said hook extending from said bulb.
LOUIS BIANCHI.
