Description
E. 1. GILBERT Feb. 1 1926. 1,572,891
DIMPLE PRODUCING APPLIANCE Filed J i 11, 1921 x INVENTOR.
I W 2 EATTVORNEYS.
Patented Feb. 16, 1926.
UNITED STATES EVANGELINE I. GILBERT, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
DIMPLE-PRODUCING APPLIANCE.
Application filed July 11,
To all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, EVANGELINE I. GIL- nnn'r, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rochester, in the county of om-0e and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dimple-Producing Appliances, of which the following is-a specification.
The present invention relates to a dimple producing appliance and an object of this invention being to produce dimples in the checks of a person which will be indistinguishable from natural dimples.
To this and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. l'is'a plan view of the dimple making appliance;
Fig. 2 shows the manner in which the dimple making appliance is mounted in position upon the head of a user;
Fig. 3 is a detail view of'the inner face of one of the dimple producing devices; and
Fig. 4 is a detail sectional View through one of the dimple producing devices showing the manner in which such device is mounted. A
According to this invention yielding pres sure is applied for an extended length of time to the opposite sides of the face at the points where it is desired to produce the dimples.
One form of appliance designed for carrying out this method" and forming part of the invention'is illustrated in the drawings,
and comprises two dimple producing de vices 1, which are connected together for relative movement preferably by a bowed connecting member 2 formed of resilient material and surrounded by a helical coil 3 which assists in producing resiliency in the bow.
The dimple producing devices are, in this instance, mounted on inwardly turned ends t ofthe bow, the-ends being received within duce the dimple.
1921. Serial No. 483,677.
.tion on the face of the user, a head attaching means maybe employed. The head attaching means may be of any suitable con struction, but, in this instance, two car hooks G are used, each of which has one end extending inwardly at 7 received within the socket 5 where it is connected with the adjacent inwardly turned end of the bow, as shown in Fig. 4. The ear hooks 6 may be made of pliable material so that they may readily bend in order to properly position the dimple producing devices 1 upon the. cheeks of the user.
In using theinventiomthe dimple pro- 7 ducing devices are moved away from each other to place the resilient bow under tension and thereafter such devices are positioned in the desired place onthe face, the hooks 6 being engaged over the ear. Should the hooks 6 be too long or too short-the hook portions are adjusted by bending the ma terial thereof to secure the proper positioningof the dimple producing devices.
. From the foregoing it will be seen, that there has beeii provided a method of producingdimples. According to this method yielding pressure for an extended period of time is applied to opposite sides of the face at the point where it is desiredto pro- The length of time on this pressure will vary with different per sons, but it has been found that, if the appliance be used during the night dimples will be present during the next day.
A yielding connection in the form of a bow between the dimple producing devices not only permits the relative movement of the dimple producing devices but also holdsthem with yielding pressure against the opposite sides of the face. Head attaching means preferably in the form of ear hooks maintains the dimple producing devices in proper positions upon the face.
\Vhat I claim as my invention and desire W to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A dimple roducing appliance com prising a pair of dimple producing devices and a resilient connection between such devices permitting their relative movement and'supporting them at such a distance from each other that they maycooperate with the cheeks of an individual to produce pres- I V sure on such cheeks.
2. An appliance for producing dimples comprising a pair of dimple producing devices, a resilient bow connecting said dimple producing devices, and supporting them at such a distance from each others that they may cooperate with the cheeks of an individual to produce pressure on such cheeks and head attaching means for maintaining the dimple producing devices in proper positions on the face. v
3. appliance for producing dimples 'such a distance from each other that they may cooperate with the checks of an individualto produce pressure on such cheeks and head attaching means for maintaining the comprising ear hooks for engaging the ears oft e user,
4. An.appliance for producing dimplescomprisingtwo dimple producing devices, a resilient connection between them and sup portin them at such adistance from each other that they ma cooperate with the cheeks of an indivi ual to-produce pressure on such cheeks, and tem les connected with the connecting means of t e two dimple producing devices.
