N. R. ERICKSON ROCKING SEESAW Filed Feb. 10, 1925 Tum-w m a I? s i KB s ATTORNEY.
INVENTOR.
Patented Feb. 9, 1926.
NILS R. ERICKSON, OFVANGOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
ROCKING SEESAW.
Application filed February To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that NILs R. EmoKsoN, a subject of the King of England, residing at Vancouver, British Columbia, Dominion .of
Canada, has invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Rocking Seesaws, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is directed to an amusc ment device in the form of a rocker adapted to be operated more or less in the manner of an ordinary see-saw and designed particularly to accommodate a third occupant at the point of least motion, with the means of accommodation of such third occupant being of a nature to take care of a very young child, and particularly one unable to support himself on the device.
The improved device comu'ises a platform mounted upon a rocker base and shaped at the respective ends to permit the operators to straddle the same to induce a rocking reciprocation of the device. The central portion of the platform, or that portion of least motion, is formed with an opening in which is removably secured a flexible carrier, as a bag-like structure, in which the smaller or younger user is placed, thus the lilBfiSUlQ- of the rocking motion is given to all occupants with the least movement to the younger occupant, while at the same time protecting him from injury or falling otf the device. The flexible carrier is preferably adjustable so that it may accommodate young children of different sizes.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a view in side elevation of the improved rocker.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail illustrating particularlv the adjustment of the carrier.
The improved device comprises a platform 1, preferably in the shape of a boardlike element, the respective ends of which are reduced in width at 2 to permit children to straddle the ends of the platform as in ordinary see-saw use. A rocker base 3 supports the platform through an intermediate frame, comprising uprights 4 and transverse braces 5, so that the platform under impetus from the respective ends is given rocking motion. Intermediate the ends of the rocker, the platform is formed with an opening 6, and a flexible carrier 7, preferably in the form of a bag-like structure, is
removably secured to the under side of the 10, 1925. Serial No. 8,273.
platform by hooks 8 on the platform and suitable eyes 9 in the upper open edge of the carrier, the edges of the carrier being arranged beyond the, opening 6.
This carrier 7 is preferably of canvas or other suitable material and the walls 10 thereof are formed at appropriate. distances with con'iplementary parts of snap fasteners or other connectors 11, whereby the height of said walls may be adjusted at will.
In use, it will be understood that children of usual age for such toys are positioned at the respective ends of the platform to induce a rocking motion thereof, the younger child is placed in the carrier, the upper portion of his body projecting through the opening 6, so that said younger child may partake of the amusement incident to the use of the device without liability of falling therefrom or being injured. Through the ad ustment of the carrler as provided for, the latter may be increased in depth to accommodate the growing child, or initially to accommodate younger children of dif ferent sizes. Obviously, the carrier may be conveniently removed when not desired or when repair is necessary.
Claims:
1. A rockingsee-saw, comprising an on interrupted platform arranged in one plane and having the terminals formed to provide a seat, the platfornibeingformed with a central opening, supports underlying the ilatform immediately in advance of the forn'iedterminals, rockers secured to the lower ends of the supports, and a flexible (arrier secured to the lower surface of the platform between the supports and beyond the edge of the opening in all directions.
A rocking see-saw, comprising an uninterrupted platform arranged in one plane and having the terminals formed to provide seat, the. platform being formed With a central opening, supports underlying the platform immediately in advance of the formed terminals, rockers secured to the lower ends of the supports, and a flexible boil-like carrier remo'vably secured to the bottom of the platform and extending in all directions beyond the wall of the opening, the walls of the carrier being adjustable to vary the depth thereof with respect to the platform.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature NILS R. ERICKSON.
