{'siirisaw.
Thi invention relatesto Seee'tws and par; ticul'arly to a'rockingdev'ice which canbejem ion' play grounds'and the like.
It is'an ob'ect'of this invention toproduce a seesaw which will not operate to degrees of; danger'in its movement while rockingand' which will be"; prevented from lateral {displacement'or other movements that wouldiin,
'jureor endangerthe lives ofith e occupants It is a further object of this'inventionto" produce a seesaw which 'c'anbe easily mount-j ed or entered in order that children in entering or leavingthe seesaw'will not beinj ured,
the said device being further provided'with means for lpreventing itsbeing tilted lateral lyzo'r from rockingbeyo'nd the Zones'of safety."
It is further "object" of: this. invention to provide seesaw which. 'will prove eflicient' and" satisfactory inuse and at thesame time comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists inthe details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts'to be hereinaftermore fully set forth and claimed. 1
' In describing the invention in detail, reference will be hadto the accompanying draw-t ings forming part of this application wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 illustrates a view-in side elevation of a seesaw embodying the invention;
Figure 2 illustrates a plan View thereof; Figure 3 illustrates a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
I Figure 4 illustrates an end view of the said seesaw; l 1 Figure 5 illustrates a plan view of the central part of the structure; and V Figure a 6, illustrates a sectional view thereof. i
The base 10' of the seesaw'may be of any appropriate type that is to say, it may consist of a scantling or beam resting on a foundation or itmay, as in the present embodiment or the invention, consist of a horizontally dis-- posed plate or board ll with supports 12 at.
the edges thereof and the said supports'ma-y be'provided with legs or other appropriate foundations suchas13 but the" inventor does not wish to be limited with respect to the type ment but, causes a smoother action whichrm ay befdes'irable under certaiir'conditions of use.
children when enteringor leaVingthe'seesaW or while it is in operationfrom getting their fingers between the rocking Y elementand its support 1 and thusthedevicecanbe made safer and Without liability of {inj tiring the users. WVh-il Y thesprings have been found a desirable'feature they may, under certain conditions ofuse, be omitted without mateof thedevice.-"Springs 15"are supported onblocks 16 and the *upper ends'of' the springs ployed as a'toy' in aihousejo'r' as an apparatus: bear against and areanchored to'the'rocking or'oscillating'element- 17 of the seesaw' a'n'd theytend to stabil-ize'the movement. -Th'e' spring s'lightlyretard s the freedom of move-- rially affecting the-efficient and satisfactory 7 operation of the device.
As shown in Figure 2 the rocking element or board is curved and it may be held in the shape inwhich itisshown in Figurevl by the" longitudinally extending side elements 1 or braces 18 and they'mayjbe secured to the board at their ends or theymaybe supplied with fastenings 19 such as screws, nails or the like which are anchored in plates or strips 19'secured to the board in any appropriate way, but these are details of con struction which may bevchanged Aseat 20 of appropriate" design-may be secured near each end of the rocking element or board and a foot rest 21 may be provided for each seat iniorder that the occupant o f-the seat may be braced and supported through the use of the foot rest. v
' The users of the seesaw may enter by mounting the rocking element Where it is in engagement with the base or support and the user may then move toward either end as the rocking element will yield under the weight of the occupant walking toward'one of the 7 seats, a v
As a means for preventing the rocking elementfrom tilting laterally, diagonally dis-. posed braces'22 and 23 are provided at each side and the upper ends of the braces are in I contact above the longitudinal center of the frame. The braces of one side are connected to the braces of the other side by a block or strip 24 and the braces and element 24 are appropriately secured together by fastenings 25 such as nails or the like. I v
The braces 22 and 23 may be connected to the sides of the base through the use of filling blocks such as 16, but other means may be provided for accomplishing this result. The strip 24 acts as a means for limiting the rocking motion of theelement 17, by reason of the fact that the braces 18 will encounter the said strip when undue rocking motion is imparted to the member 17 p I As the operation of the device scribed in connection with-the description oi the various parts of the device, a rsum of the operation is believed unnecessary. V
I claim:
1. In an amusement device, a base, an
oscillatable element thereon wider than the base and projecting from the edges of the base, said oscillatable element being upward- 1y curved at its ends, braces connecting the I upturnedportions for maintaining them in certain positions, seats on the oscillatable element near its ends, means at the edge of the said element'for preventing lateral movement thereof, and means for limiting the oscillatory movement of the said element.
2. In an amusement device, a base, an oscillatable element having its ends upwardhas been de;
oscillatable element thereon having its ends upwardly curved and wider than the base,
means'for connecting the upwardly curved portions of the oscillatable element thereon together for bracing the same and maintaiii' ing it rigid, seats near the ends of the element, foot rests on the said element below the seats, and upstanding braces at the sides of the element for preventing lateral movement of the element and having means for limiting the oscillatory movement of the said element. Y
4. In an amusement device, an oscillatable element comprising a strip of material bowed to form a rocker, braces having their endsanchored to the saidelement near its end for V holding the strip in a bowed shape, seats on the said oscillatable element, andabase narrower than the oscillatable element on which said oscillatable element is supported.
