Description

Feb. 9 1926.
J. B. C. ADAM DROP SEAT FOR GARMENTS Filed July 22, 1924 Attorney Patented Feb. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEAN-BAPTIST]! CHARLES ADAM, OF SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
DROP SEAT FOR GABMEN'IB.
Application filed July 22, 1924. Serial No. 727,551.
- To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that I, J EAN-BAPTISTE CHARLES ADAM, a subject of the King 'of Great Britain, residing at Sault Ste. Marie, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in.
' flaps which button in various-manners to the body of the garment or with a band around the body which must be adjusted every time that the drop seat has beenused. As is well known, these devices are troublesome especially when the buttons become detached.
I The object of the present invention is-to overcome this defect which is done by means of a' construction not requiring buttons or other fastening elements, or even-adjusting the drop seat by hand, and at the same time tending to hold the drop seat in normal position when it is not lowered, by the only fact that when the wearer is standing the drop seat will adjust itself. The improvement consists specifically of elastic members secured to the corners of the drop seat and passing over the shoulders, pulling horizontally and vertically.
The elastic members passed over the shoulders are drawn through suitable pipings attached to the body portion.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a rear view ofamans comblnation made according to the invention; and
Figure 2 is a side View thereof.
Reference will now be made to-these views by means of like characters which are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
In Figure 1 is shown a view of a set of mens combinations comprising a body portion 1 and leg portions 2. The latter are Garments of this character have formed with adrop seat 3, the upper edge 4 of WlllCll is free from but adapted to coincide with the waist line 5. The leg portions further include side. flaps 6 which slightly overlap as at 7 and partly cover the seat.
Over each shoulder is secured a. piping 8 whlch extends downwardly along the back and front to the waist line. The forward lap 9 is bent slightly rearwardly as at 10 so that 1t terminates near the end of the back lap 11. The front lap 9 being bent has the advantage of. pulling the drop seat horizontally. Elastic straps 12 are assed through each piping and the ends t ereof are secured to the upper corners of the drop seat 3, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2.
In the use of this garment, it is merely necessary to pull the drop seat downwardly when required. It normally reaches its raised position when the wearer is standing because of the tension of the elastic member passing over the shoulders.
While a specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that various alterations in V the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the in vention as indicated by the appended claims. Having thus fully described the invention,
what I, claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. A garment comprising a body portion, legs depending therefrom, a drop seat formed with said legs, pipings passed over the shoulders-of said body portion. and elastic members passed through said pipin and having their ends secured only to t e seat, whereby said members normally hold the seat in its closed position when the wearer is standing.
2. A garment comprising a body portion, legs depending therefrom, a drop seat formed with said legs, pipings passed over the shoulders of said bod portion, said pipings having their ends irected towards said seat, and elastic members passed through said pipings and having their ends secured only to the seat, whereby said members normally hold the seat in its closed position when the wearer is standing.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JEAN-BAPTIST CHARLES ADAI.
