Description

Feb. 9 1926. 1,571,996
L. l. BRADDOCK CAPPING FOR STUCCO WALLS Filed May 18 1925 fizz f. 1.,
Patented Feb. 9, i926.
Ul'ltil) LEO IGNATIOUS BRADDOCK, OF NEW SYMRNA, FLORIDA.
CAPPING 130;? STUGCO WALLS.
Application filed May 18, 1925. Serial No. 31,101.
Be it known that 1, Taco IGNATIOUS lin nnocn, citizen of the United States, residing at New Siinyrua. in the county of Vol-usia and State of Florida, have invented. certain new and useful improvements in a apping tor Stucco lValls, of which the following a specification. I
There is a well known type of house which is popular in certain portions of this couin try and is commonly known as the Spanish type. It has always been a problem to the builder and architect in carrying out the Spanish design, at the top of the parapet wall. in that there has never been any eli icient means designed whereby the builder could carry the plaster or stucco to the top of the wall without the showing of metal or wood.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide means whereby it is possible to carry the plaster or stucco to the very top of theparapet wall without showing any metal, wood, or other anchoring means. I
Another important object of the invention is to provide a means of this nature which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and etlicient, strong, (lIllAblO, easy to incorporate in thewall structure. and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain details of construction as will be here inatter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a sectional view through the upper portion of a parapet wall with my improved anchor and cap attachment associated therewith. and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary detail enlarged perspective view or" a portion of the anchor and cap.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the parapet wall shown in Figure 1 comprises the wooden lath portion 1, the rear portion 2, and the top 3, which are all of conventional construction. The root is indicated at 4 and extends rearwardly from the rear portion 2 in the usual manner. The plaster or stucco is indicated at 5 and engages the lath structure 1' by the dove tail tongue and groove connection 6 as is usual.
My improvement consists of a tapping sion 8 lies along the inner side of the flange 9, the intermediate portion 01 the extension 8 lies under the plate 7, and the other side of this extension is perpendicularly disposed into the plate 7. The flange 9,. and the adjacent side of the extension 8 may be provided with registering apertures 10. The plate 3 is placed on the top 7 so that the extension 8 depends along the front surface of the lath structure 1. If a similar extension 8 is provided on the other end of the plate, this will overhang a lath structure also. As shown in Figure 1, however, the rear portion 2 is of that nature which would not be seen, and therefore a flange 11 is merely provided for engaging the rear 2.
The plaster and stucco is applied in the usual manner so as to extend into the channel ot the extension 8, and about the flange 9, and over the top of the adjacent portion of the plate 7, as is clearly shown in Figure 1. If desired. fastening element such as spikes 11 may be driven through the stucco, through the openings 10, and so as to pierce the other side or inner side of the extension and the lath structure 1.
lVith this improved cap and anchoring device it is possible to carry the stucco above the top 3 without the necessity of showing any wood or metal as is now the common custom.
it is thoughtthat the advantages, con struction, and utility of my invention will now be clearly understood by those familiar with the Spanish type of houses having the parapet wallswithout a more detailed description. It is apparent, however, that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination, a parapet wall including a lath structure and a top, a plate disposed over the top and having an inverted U-shaped extension on its end depending in front of the lath structure, and stucco applied to the lath structure to extend in and about the extension and over the adjacent I portion oi. the plate.
8. A device of they class described includ-' ing a plate body, a iange depending from one edge oi the plate body and. merging into an inverted U-shaped extension having one wall lying; alongside the flange, said flange and the side of the extension ad 'acent thereto being provided with registering openings.
l. In a parapet, wall. structure wherein. a stucco is applied to the lath structure, a cap and anchoring device comprising a plate for resting on top of the parapet Wall structure and extending beyond the lath structure, a flange depending from the edge of the plate beyond the lath structure and merging into an inverted U-shaped extension having the adjacent side disposed against the flange,
5. In a parapet wall structure wherein a stucco is applied. to the lath structure, a cap and anchoring device con'iprising a plate for resting on top of the parapet Wall structure and extending beyond the lath structure, a flange depending from the edge of the plate beyond the lath structu e and nnirging into an inverted til-shaped extension having the adjacent side disposed against the flange,
said llang c and the adjacent side (it the extension lll'UYltlQCl with registering openings, and tasten'un; elements adapted to pierce the stucco, the openings, and the laths structure.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature Lno EGNAJEIOUS nniinnoe e
