The object of the invention is to provide a brush suitable for house painting, kalso` mining or other broad surface painting or coating particularly when applying a finish to a ceiling or other over-head object, whereby the overflow or drip from the brush bristles may be caught or trapped and there-- by prevented from flowing on to the handle of the brush to the discomfort and inconvenience of the operator and, at the saine time, may be conserved and subsequently returned to the bulk or supply for use instead of being wasted, as under the ordinary conditions, and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of parts of which a preferred e1n-` bodiinent wherein Figure 1 is a side view of a brush showing in dotted lines ducts or conductors whereby the surplus or drip from the bristles is carried to the reservoir.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken longitudinally of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by line 53--3 of Figure 2.
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view on the plane indicated by line -a of Figure The brush head 10 may be of any suitable form, of construction or dimensions to suit the purpose for which it is designed and the bristles 11 carried thereby may be similarly is illustrated in the drawing made of any preferred material for the same reasons, with the inner ends thereof held in compact relation by any preferred form of binder 12, serving` to present the saine proper relation for the eihcient application of paint or other coating to a surface.
Carried by the head in peripherally bounding relation therewith and in outwardy Serial No. 588,143.
ly spaced relation with the marginal bristles is a guard band 13 of leather, or metal, or like material adapted to maintain its forni while presenting and performing the functions of the outer wall of the channel 12 formed between the same and the plane of the binder, for the purpose when the brush is in uptilted or inverted position, as shownin the drawings, of catching any drip or overflow from the bristles and preventing such overflow from passing to the outer surface of the guard band and thence to the body of the head and to the handle or grip, which is indicated at 14.
The grip or handle is preferably hollow or cavitied as indicated at 15, to form a reservoir and in order to provide for the detachinent of this reservoir for the purpose of discharging the accumulated liquid there` in it is provided with an exteriorly threaded nippleV 16 engaged with a threaded outlet bore 17 in the reduced shank portion 18 of the brush head, while leading to this outlet bore from the channel 12 bounded at its outer side by said guard band 13 are ducts or conveyors 19, bored or otherwise formed in the head and serving to convey liquid entering the drip channel to the reservoir for subsequent removal and return to the supply or stock for subsequent use.
What is claimed is:
A brush having a tapered head formed with a bristle receiving recess inthe larger end and stepped shoulders in the outer face of the wall of said recess, the other end of the head having a central threaded bore eX- tending longitudinally thereinto for a short dlstanee, al removable hollow handle having a nipple threaded in said bore and coinmunicating therewith, a. ba'nd secured to the head on one of the shoulders and outwardly of the other shoulder to form the outer wall of a channel of which the inner wall of the said other shoulder is the inner wall thereof, the head having oblique passages extending from the bottom wall of said channel into the inner end of the said threaded bore for discharging paint into said nipple.
In testimony whereof, I afIiX my signature.
Josnrrr KRATocnvrL.
