ATTORNEY.
Patented Jan. 19, 1926. l fg' PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL S. HINDS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
T SQUARE.
Application filed June 26, 1923. Serial No. 647,864.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. HINDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in T Squares, of which the following` is a specification.
This invention relates to T-squares for architectural and patent draftsmen and more particularly to a novel and improved graduated combined ruler and T-square adapted for a multiplicity of uses in drafting work.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a graduated T-square wherein the graduated head may be adjusted to various positions on the graduated ruler so as to accommodate drafting boards of different dimensions including provision whereby circles or curved lines may be drawn.
Another object of my invention is to provide a T-square and wherein the same is provided with a graduated head at each end of the ruler, said head being capable of adjustment to various positions so as to acconnnodate various sized drafting boards, the ruler being graduated from left to right and right to left so that measurements may be taken therefrom und lined up with the graduated head at either end of the ruler.
I accomplish the above objects and others which will become more apparent as the description proceeds and as illustrated by the accompanying drawings, wherein;
`Figure l is a perspective view showing the application of the T-square.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the T-square when utilized as a compass when drawing circles, or parts of circles.
Figure 3 is a top plan of the T-square.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
designates a drawing board of any dimension and 6 the ruler of the T-square, which, as shown, is graduated in inches from left to right and reversely from right toleft. At predetermined points at leach end of the ruler, apertures 7 are drilled therethrough so that a pencil or instrument 8 may be inserted through any one of said apertures and act as a pivot when drawing circles or arcs of circles, it being understood that a second pencil or instrument 9 is inserted in any one of the apertures in the opposite end of the ruler. e
Either or both of the heads l0, 11, may be adjusted or positioned at different points along the graduated ruler so as to accommodate the various sizes of drafting boards and thus avoiding the use of different sized T-squares for different sized boards as are now common. When both of the heads 10, il, are secured on the ruler Vand to accommodate the exact size of board, the ruler may be easily slid up and down and measurements may be easily and quickly made, giving free use of the hands. Of course, if so desired, the ruler may be reversed, for drawing circles in the manner above described.
Referring to the drawings, it'will be observed that the heads 10, l1, are each provided with a groove of a width to receive the ruler so that the top face of the same will lie iush with the heads. Furthermore when the fastening element is screwed tightly in position, the ruler and heads are prevented from becoming loose due to their constant use.
Vhile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations thereinmay be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is A drawing instrument of the class described comprising a ruler graduated in opposite directions along its opposed edges respectively and having a series of apertures therethrough at different points throughout its length, and a cross head at each end of said ruler one ot said cross heads being adapted to be positioned at any of said points to accommodate different size drawing boards.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
