IMPROVEMENT IN STEAK-TENDERERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,951, dated November 17, 1874; application filed September 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL J. SHULTS, of Mount Union, in the county of Huntington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Steak-Tenderer, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved steaktenderer as shown in open position, and Fig. 2 a sectional side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to a device by which steaks may be easily and rapidly tendered. The invention consists of two toothed plates, which are hinged at one end, to be adjustable to greater or less thickness of steak, and closed by means of a lever with sectional pinion pivoted to the inner plate, and gearing with a toothed stationary arm of the lower plate.
In the drawing, A represents the lower toothed plate of my improved device for tendering steaks, &c., which is fastened, if desired, by side lugs or ears and screws to some suitable support. The upper plate B is similarly toothed, and hinged by curved arms a and a bolt, b, to forked staples d of the lower plate. The curved arms a are provided with two or more perforations, a, for the purpose of setting the plates at greater or less distance from each other and adjusting them to steaks of different thicknesses placed between them. An upright arc-shaped arm, 0, with gear-teeth, is arranged at the front part of lower plate A, and engaged by the teeth of a sectional pinion at the end of lever D, which is pivoted to the front part of upper plate B. Both plates are carried toward each other by swinging the lever to the front, and act with considerable power on the steak placed be tween them for tendering the same. The tenderingplates may also be provided with con cave recesses e of suitable size, and juicechan- DANIEL J. SHULTS.
