To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM BERNSTEIN, citizen of the lfnited States, and resident of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Headgears, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvment in head-gear and one of its objects is to provide a head covering wherein a protective veiling is provided to guard against the ill effects from cold winds, upon the face of the wearer. and from insect bites.

A further object is to provide a device or the character described wherein the protective veiling is attached to the head-gear and forms a part thereof.

Another object is to provide an article of wearing apparel as described whereupon a protective veiling is attached; the said veiling being adapted to be conveniently placed within the cap when not in use.

These objects are attained by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;

Figure l is a perspective view, showing an embodiment of this invention and shows same as worn by an infant.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of a ca having the protective veiling attached thereon.

Figure 3 is a similar view showing the protective veiling in its drop position just prior to its being tied in place.

Figure 4- is a side view of a cap showing a slightly modified form.

Figure 5 is a sectional view of a cap showing the protective veiling, positioned within the cap when not in use.

Referring in detail to the parts, 1 designates a cap such as is commonly worn by infants. 2 designates the tying strings of same. 3 designates a veiling of any suitable material which is attached by stitching or other means, along the outer edge 4-, of the cap. 5 is a hem formed along the outer edge Serial No. 588,849.

of the protecting veil and carries tying strings 6, of ribbon or the like.

In practice the cap 1, which is made of any desired material, is placed upon the head of a child or infant and secured thereon by means of tying ribbons 2, in the usual manner. The protecting shield, 3, a transparent material of any desired texture, is then drawn over the face of the wearer and held in position by means of the tying strings or ribbons 6, which are drawn upon the neck and suitably tied at the back.

It will be noted that while the drawing illustrates a cap such as is commonly worn by small children or infants, this invention is applicable to other forms of head-gear.

It is also obvious that other means, than that shown, may be employed to attach the protective veiling to the cap and fasten same in position upon the wearer.

In Figure 2 the modified form consists in drawing the hemmed edge back to the base of the cap. Such a form may eliminate the gathering of the material when the veiling is tied in place.

Figure 5 shows the manner in which the protecting veiling member is drawn back into the cap when not in use.

Various modifications other than those mentioned, may be employed in this invention, it is therefore not intended to limit same to the particular embodiments shown and described.

What is claimed:

In the head covering and protecting shield for infants, the combination with a cap of a veiling attached along the front, sides and to) of said cap and extending therefrom, a hem .formed along the outer edge of said veil, tying strings upon said cap and tying strings engaging through said hem upon the veiling.
