IMPROVEMENT IN PANTALOON-FORMERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELLEN B. Virus, of Boston, of the county of Sufi'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Shaping Pantaloons; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 an end view, Fig. 3 a horizontal section, and Fig. 4 a longitudinal section, of one of my improved pantaloon or trowsers shap ers or formers.

I usually construct such former in four main sections or parts, 9 h ik, formed as shown, and connected by a series of dowels, pins, or tenons, 1, extending from each section into the two next adjacent to it, the same being so that the sections, while in connection, may be moved into difl'erent distances apart. A third or crotch section, m, interposed between the pairs g h andvlk of sections in manner as shown, has on opposite sides of it, and in the said pairs of sections, two recesses, a a, to receive wedges for forcing the two pairs of sections apart horizontally. The two sections of each of the said pairs are grooved lengthwise to receive wed ges 0 0 for pressing such sections apart. Furthermore, the foot portion p of each of the upper leg-sections gr; I usually make separable from the rest of the section, the two portions being connected by'tenons or dowels. This is to allow another foot portion differing a little in form or size to be substituted, as occasion may require, and, besides, it facilitates the application of the former to a pair of trowsers.

The said pantaloons-former is designed more especially to be used in a stationary box or chamber, in which case the former, prior to v such use, is to be introduced into a pair of trowsers, the wedges afterward being driven up so as to cause the former to fit closely to the garment or stretch the same to the desired extent. The former and the garment thus stretched upon it are next to be placed within the stationary apparatus.

What I claim as my invention is 1. The trowsers-former F, composed of the four main sections g h :1 7a, with or without the crotch-piece m, connected and provided with wedges, as described, whether each of the sections g h be in one entire piece or constructed with the foot portion separable from the rest of the section, as set forth.

2. In a pantaloonshaper, the foot portion 19, separable from the leg section or part 9 or i, and applied theretoby means substantially as specified.
