RALPH. D. THOMPSON, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, ASSIGNOPJ OF ONE-HALF TO PERRY B. CLARK, OF CQLUMBUS, GFIIO.
LO-OM LOCK.
Application filed August 27, 1923.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RALPH D. Triton! Perm. a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Loom Locks. of which the following is a specification.
The insurance underwriters are now re quiring that the loom or a casing of trio conductors passed through the opening in an outlet or other box shall be held from movement in either direction in such opening and the object of the present invention is to provide a simple. cheap and odor tive form of device for this purpose.
The invention is embodied in the example herein shown and described, the features of novelty being finally claimed.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a side or edge view of the device.
Fig. 3 illustrates in section an outlet box with my invention holding the looms of the two wires united within the box.
Fig. 4-. is an exterior view of an outlet box with my devices holding the looms.
In the views the character designates an outlet box. The walls of such boxes are now usually provided at various points with cut portions 5 having a slender connection with the wall sothat they may be knocked out to provide an opening or passage for the electric conductor from the exterior to the interior of the box. Such passages are shown at 6 and 6 The characters 7 designate the loom or casing for wires 8 that are electrically united as shown or in any other suitable manner. As before stated it is now re quired that the loom be held from movement either inward or outward with reference to the box and my device is designed to accomplish this consists of a piece of sheet metal 9 formed at one edge with a spur 10 and flanking fingers 11 and at the other edge Serial No. (359,575.
with a snap tongue 12 substantially as shown. To apply the holder the spur is struck into the loom in a slanting position to permit the fingers 11 to be shoved through the opening of the box after which the lower edge of the body 9 is pressed toward the box so as to cause the engagement of the snap tongue with the w ll of the box at the lower portion of the opening 13. in this position the hugers ll resist the loom from being pulled outward and the snap tongue resists the loom from being pushed inward. My device can be applied either before or after the electrical connection of the wires is made within the box or before connection of those wires with other structures for utilizing the current.
The forms of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is: l
l. A loom lock consisting of a body portion to lie at one side of a perforated wall and substantially parallel thereto, a spur on the body portion to engage the loom, a pair of fingers flanking the spur and projecting from said body portion and straddling the loom to engage the opposite side of the wal and a snap tongue projecting from the edge of the body portion opposite said fingers to engage the edge of the wall at the perforation.
2. A loom lock consisting of a body portion to lie at one side of a perforated wall and substantially parallel thereto. a pair of fingers projecting from said body portion and straddling the loom to engage the opposite side of the wall. means between said fingers for engaging the loom and a snap tongue projecting from the edge of the body portion opposite said fin ers to engage the edge of the wall at the perforation.
RALPH n. THOMPSON.
