Application-filedDecember 23,- 19'24. Seri-al Ne. "257,616;
To all whom it may concern.
Be itknown that I,' ;l\IORRTS \VUNrrrar -a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of B-ronx, county of Bronx,
1 city and State of New York, havejinventedcertain new and, useful Im, arovenients in provision of a duplex construction of longitudinal pocket member having openings and closures relatively at opposite ends of the pocket book all as hereinafter fully set forth. I
In the accompanying drawings I illustrate a practical embodiment of the essential features of my invention in a pocket book of the character designated, although I do not limit myself to the identical configuration and constructionof parts shown by way of exemplification since modifications in form and equivalent mechanical expedients may be resorted to with like results and without departing from the spirit and intent of my invention in this respect.
With this understanding Fig. 1., represents a perspective view of a of, the fiap being shown as turned away in part from the main portion of the pocket book;
Fig. 2, is a similar view with the flap extended and broken away in part to show the construction and arrangement in detail of my duplex pocket member;
Fig. 3, is a longitudinal section of the flap, taken upon general plane of line 3-3, Fig; 1. I
In said drawings, B, indicates the body or main portion of the pocket book, of usual construction, and containing the customary subdivisional pockets or compartments, not essentia to be sham; in this cennectioa claimed, and a distinctive feature being the pocket book provided with my duplex pocket member as incorporated in the flap there- F, is the flap or cover, flexibly orarticularly connected with the back of the main portion B, of the pocketbook in a manner wellknown in. the art. It differs, however, from the o 'dinary pocket book cover flap in that it 'is formed with two longitudinal pockets P, l by means ofa medial partition L, extending thewhole length of the cover flap, and attached to the longitudinaledges thereof. One-end of thispar-titionlining L, is attached tothe layer of material forming the rear or inner side wall f, of the flap F, and the other end of said partition lining L, is attached to the layer of material forming the front or outer side wall 7", of the flap F, thus creating the aforesaid longitudinal pockets P, P, the entrance 1), to one pocket P, being at the opposite extremity of the flap to the entrance 7), to the other pocket P, as clearly indicated in the drawings.
I have herein shown and described my duplex pocket member as consisting of the flap F, although I do not limit myself in this respect since my duplex pocket member may be incorporated with either the back portion or the front portion of the body or main portion B, of the pocket book with substantially like results in so far as the utility and convenience of the device is concerned.
By my construction and arrangement of duplex pocket member I afford twice as much capacity and accommodation as compared with the single longitudinal pocket heretofore provided in this class of pocket book; and furthermore, provide for the separate stowing away of articles to be carried. Thus, for instance, ladies gloves may be separately positioned each extending full length in a pocket by itself, instead of being folded or inturned together as heretofore,
and inserted in a pocket or compartment of the book which tends to make the pocket book bulge and look clumsy, at the same time being detrimental to the gloves. Hence, the appearance of the pocket book, considered in a. unitary sense is much improved and its convenience and adaptability in use enhanced.
\Vhen the size and length of the pocket book is adapted for the purpose, my duplex longitudinal twin pockets 1?, P, having openings at opposite extremities of the book. may be utilized as a means of comi'ort and P e i r the hands of t e u r; the
pocket book thus being adapted to function as a mufi.
What I claim as my inventionand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r 1. A pocket book of the character designated, having a flap member constructed with duplex co-related longitudinal pockets inverted with relation to each other and extended each for the full length of the flap, the mouth of each pocket being at the extremity thereof adjacent to the closed end of the other twin pocket, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. A pocket book of the character designated, formed with a body portion and a flap articularly connected therewith, said flap connected with a duplex: pocket member consisting of co-related longitudinal pockets separated by a single common partition lining, the pockets being each extended the full length of the flap and inverted with relation to each other and with the mouth of each pocket at the extremity thereof adjacent to the closed end of the other twin pocket, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, a pocket book embodying a main portion, and a flap articularly connected with the back of said main portion, said flap being formed with two longitudinal pockets with a medial partition extended the whole 7 length of the flap, one end of said partition being attached to the inner wall of the flap and the other end attached to the outer wall 0f said flap, the entrances to said pockets being inverted with relation to each other with their entrances at opposite sides of the flap.
