Be it known that I, CHARLES EQ I'rsKIN,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen and Pencil Cases, of which the following is a specification.

4 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined pen and'v pencil case, and has for its principal object to provide a 'simple and etlicient device which. may be used either as a pen or a pencil, as may be desired.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a combined pen and pencil case ofthe above mentioned character, wherein the pencil holder is provided with means for receiving and supporting auxiliary implements, which may be readilyl andeasily actuated, whenever'it is desired to use the same.

A'further object of the invention is to provide a combined pen and pencil case of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the pur- -poses for which it is designated.

A still further object is to provide a penv and pencil case of the above mentioned character, which may be readily and easily carried in the ocket of a person.

.Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral .1 designates a cylindrical casing2 which 1s formed of any suitable material, preferably aluminum, and the open Kends there- 'of are internally threaded as illustrated at 2 and 3 respectively, in the drawing. A shoulder 6 is provided on the inner end of the pen 5 and engages the 'inner closed end of the-holder 4 to prevent the outward movement of the pen with respect to the pen holder. The pen point 7 eX- tends beyond the outer closed end ofthe holder 4, and a suitable cap 8 fits over the outer end of the pen holder and the pen ipoint 7 to protect the same, when the pen is 3 of the casing 1 is the encil holder 9, the.

The pencil holder 9 is hollow, and the outer end thereof is provided with a hinged connection 19, the hinged portion being shown at 20. The purpose of providing the outer end of the pencil holder 9 with the hollow portion is to provide a means for receiving an additional supply of leads 21, which are used in connection with the longitudinally extending recesses 12 provided in the outer end of the pencil 94 and the hinged section 19 in the manner as clearly illustrated in Figure 3. Each of the pencil elements 21, receivable in each recess 12, has a detachable handle 17 slidable through slot 18 associated with the inner end thereof for moving the pencil outwardly from the holder when it is desired to use the same or for retracting the lead within a recess. When the lead in the recesses has become entirely used, the ends of the lead may be removed from the handle, and a new lead inserted in place thereof. A cap 16 is 'receivable over the end of the pencil holder 9 s as to hold the hinged portion 19 closed and to prevent the extension of the leads 21. l

The provision of a pen and pencil ease of the above mentioned character enables a person to have at hand either a pen or pencil, or any other desired implement w ich may be carried in the pocket of a person, the same being accessible at all times. The simplicity with which my device is constructed enables the several parts to be readily assembled or removed from the casing los and when the caps are on the outer ends of the pencil holder and the pen holders there will be no danger of the pen or pencil becom-I ing broken While being carried around by a person.

A device 'of the above mentioned character may be manufactured at a very low cost, and will ossess numerous advantages and render possi le the carrying 0f the several implements by e person in a more compact manner.

While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the inu vention and the scope of the appended claims. l

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

l. A pencil holder of the class described including a cylindrical body adapted to hold end, and having its other end hollow and formed in a pair of hinged sections, and a cap receivable over said sections to hold them together.

2. A pencil holder of the class described including a cylindrical body adapted to hold a pencil at one end, and having its other end hollow and formed in a pair of hinged sections, a cap receivable over said sections` to hold them together,
