Description

G. F. KIGHT.
STOCK.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 9, 1920.
Patented. Oct. H, 192k 1 eanriennfr. grant, or nonromcjvrrremm.
igaae seo 7 fowllwhemitmethane-em.-
Be it known that I, GARLAND F. KIGHT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stocks, of which the following is a specification,
My invention relates to stocks or thread cutting die holders, its principal object being to provide a stock or die holder particularly designed. forthreading U-bolts.
A further obj ect'of the invention is to provide a stock or die holder adapted to be used in threading U-bolts andconstructed so that the handle of the stock will clear the extremities of the U-bolt during the rotation or cutting operation of the stock.
Further, itis within the provisions of th presentinvention to provide an extensible die holder including a plurality of interfitting units, the endmost one of which carryhandles of the stock will not be obstructed ing a die, whereby it is possible to thread elements of varied lengthsj,
It is also embodied in provide a stock or die holder wherein the in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement of parts, operation and specific features, all of which will be hereinafter referred to and explicitly defined in the subjoined claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved stock or die holder in operative position on aU-bolt; v r h Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of one of the units of the invention;
i i Fig. 3 is an elevation of the die to be used in connection with the invention; and
Fig. 4 is an elevation showing. a number of the interfitting units in operative position and to be assembled with the stock in L the same manner that the single unit as 4 i illustrated in Fig. 1.
my invention to swoon.
.fl p i n e P nama. ii, rear. Application fil ed time, r920. serial no. 372,620. I
i iaise-111g to the drawing in'detail where in like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates the stock 1n its entirety including the usual handles 5' end having an annular recess 6 in its under ace.
The association with the stock 5 there is a sleeve 7 having its opposite ends increased in thickness, one of which being received inv the recess 6 1n the body or stock 5 and retained in this position by set-screws 8 car-,
ried by thestock. The opposite or outer end of the sleeve 7 is provided with a seat or recess 9 in which the die 10 is engaged and held in this position by set-screws 11 carried by this end of the sleeve. 7
When itis desired to thread U-bolts of th size shown in "Fig. 1 it will be obvious that it is only necessary to assemble one of the units 7 with the stock. However, should it be necessary to thread elements of a relatively great. length a number of the sleeves or units 7 would be assembled together. In this connection it will be stated that the in nor endof each of the sleeves 7 is of such diameter as to be received within the die re ceivingrecess 9 of the sleeve next in order.
In using the device with a number of the units connected together, the threaded cuttingdie will be carried by the outermost sleeve. 1
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and thatvarious changesin the shape, size andarrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the sub-joined Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. The combination with a stock provided with oppositely extending handles, of a plurality of sleeves having one end of less diameter than the other and having the latter end provided with a recess to receive the smaller end of the sleeve next in order, fastenings retaining the sleeves rigid with each other,'the inner end of the innermost sleeve being fixed to rotate with the stock, and a die accommodated within the outer end of the outermost sleeve.
2. In a die holder, a body having a recess in itsunder face and further provided with laterally disposed handles, a sleeve having one end secured within the recess, the oppo site end of the sleevebeing provided with an annular enlargement having a recess of greater diameter than the sleeve, and a die held within the recess.
3. Inadie holder, a body having an an ends and having one of said ends accommodated within the recess and fixed to rotate with the body, the opposite end of the sleeve being provided with an annular recess of 1 GARLAND F. KIGrHT.
