FRANK JUDSON, OF DES ARC, ARKANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-JACKS.
Sf eci. cation forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,736, dated November 10, 1874; application filed September 5, 1874.
' Arc, in the county of Prairie and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and Improved Wagon-Jack, of which the following is a specification:
in the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a sectional side elevation of my improved wagon'jack, and Fig. 2 a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, A represents a hollow standard, of suitable material and broad supporting-base. B is a center-post, which slides therein, being raised by means of strong strap 0, of leather or other material, which extends from the lowermost part of post B, along the flattened side of the same, to and over a le ver-arm, D, which is pivoted to suitable projecting lugs to of the upper part of standard A. .The outer end of the strap O is provided with a link-shaped catch, 0, which slides over lever D, and enters the recesses of a toothed rack, D, arranged at the under side of lever D. The center-post has pin-holes b at different heights, for being retained in raised position by a pin, d, which is placed into a side socket, d, and securely held by a spring, 0, of standard A.
For operating the jack, raise the lever D as far as it will allow, place catch 0 as far out on the rack of the lever as possible, and press the lever downward, which will raise the center-post. The pin is then placed through the lowest visible hole above the upper part of the standard A, for sustaining the weight thereon, and the operation of raising the center-post is then repeated until the wagon or other object to be hoisted is at the required height. After use, the pin is withdrawn and replaced, and the center-post carried back into the standard by releasing the catch from the rack on the lever-arm.
I am aware that a center-post movable vertically in a hollow post, and held at different altitudes by a pin, is not new. Hence,
What I claim is 1. The combination, with pin cl, of the side socket d and spring 6, arranged as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with lifting-lever D, having ratchet on the under side, and the center-post B, of the strap 0, attached to the latter at one end, and provided with a link, 0', at the other, as and for the purpose specified.
FRANK JUDsoN.
