CONTAINER FOR ELECTRIC IRONS.
Application filed February 25, 1924. Serial N6. 694,848.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL W. Mo- AnnLn, a citizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook and the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers for Electric Irons, of which the following is a specification, reference-being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a container for an electric iron in which the same may be safely stored when the iron is still hot upon the conclusion of a period of use, and also in which the iron may be conveniently and efiectively exposed for sale and transported, and which may also accommodate the electric cable of the iron without liability to injury thereof by reason of exposure to the heat of the iron, particularly as by contact therewith. It-consists in the elements and features of construction shown and described, as indicated in the claims.

Figure 8 is a fore-and-aft vertical section] o emng'up rearwardly and a front wall, 13, h nged at the lower edge for opening down ,forwardly, and having space forstoring an electric iron indicated at C, lodged upon a suitable stand, H, employed for like purposes when the iron is in use, said stand having its three legs, h, h, h, engaged in depressions, h struck from the bottom, H of the case, and serving as short legs by which the case rests upon the table or sh lf where it may be placed or stored, and which insure a limited air. space below the case for ventilation, and to prevent heating through from the iron to the shelf or table. The specific purpose to which this invention is directed with respect to the details of construction of the container shown is to provide means for storing the electric cable of the iron in the container with the iron, and safe from danger of being injured from the heat of the iron when it is so stored with the iron still hot from recent use. For the purpose of thus storing the cable two provisions are made in the structure shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, elther or both of which may be used, both being in service when, as is frequently desirable, two
cables are provided for the iron having different terminals adapted for engagement with different forms of sockets. For this purpose there is mounted upon the under side of the hinged cover extending along the side next to the hinge, a pocket formed by a sheet metal stamping, D, which is suitably flanged and riveted to the cover and shaped so as to be accommodated in the space above the body of the iron behind the handle thereof when the cover is in closed position with the iron in the case. For admitting the cable in this form the pocket is made open at the ends as seen in Figure 2 for inserting'and removing the cable. In
addition to the pocket, D, mounted upon the cover as above described, there is desirably provided a second pocket, E, which is mounted upon the inner side of the front wall extending along the upper edge thereof opposite the hinged edge, for protruding into the case when said front is at closed position, above the body of the iron and forward of the handle, that is, in the position at the opposite side of the handle from the pocket carried by the cover at closed position. This ocket, E, is formed similarly to'the pocl et, D, open at theends as seen in Figure 2 for inserting and removing the cable.

Instead of a pocket or pockets as described and shown in Figure 10 for holding the cable, there may be mounted in similar positions on the cover and front wall re-' spectively, capped, flanged or cross-headed posts around which the cable mav be coiled.
Such construction is shown in Figure 4 in which flanged studs or posts, F, F, are shown mounted in the cover near the opposite ends, spaced far enough therefrom for coiling the cable around the posts, and in which crossheaded or T-shaped posts, G. G. are shown mounted in-the hinged front, B, for projecting inward into the case when said. front is at closed position, the cross heads being preferably transverse rather than longltndinal with respect to the container, and thereby being vertical at the closed position of the front wall by which the coiling of the cable is somewhat facilitated, as compared with longitudinally extending cross heads.
In the form shown in Figures 4 and 5, the posts, F, on the hinged top desirably have their flange heads as shownformed'in one piece, constituting a deflector, K for defleeting the hot air rising from the iron away from the cable coiled on the posts, F; and
ventilating apertures are designedly made v in the top, A. as seen at aa: in position for causing the air current to be normally biased toward the same deflected course. Also, in
' this form. a deflecting shield, G is desirably provided below the posts, G, in position for deflecting the hot air rising from the iron away from the cable coiled on the posts. In the form shown in Figures 2, 3 and 10, in which the cable mounting holding means are in the form of pockets, it is desirable that these pockets should be ventilatedby the apertures situated so as to cause' circulation of air from the outside through the pockets, tending to prevent the circulation 'of hot air from the iron through its pockets.
With this in view, the pocket, D, it will be noticed, has'the wall, which, at, closed position. seats against the back wall of the case,
consisting only of a rudimentary strip, E
extending along the side next to the hinge and the back wall of the case has apertures, mm, registering with the open area ofthe wall below this rudimentary strip; and the top, A, has a row of apertures, a, which open from the upper side of the pocket when the top, A, is in closed position so that there is obtained a circulation of air from the outside through the pocket and out through said aperture, a. For a similar purpose in this form, the front wall, B, has a row of apertures, 12, opening from the pocket, E, along the upper forward corner of that pocket (referring to the same as at closed position of said front wall); and a second row of ventilating apertures, 6 is formed through the said front Wall immediately above the junction of the deflector, K, with said front wall.
In Figures 7, 8 and 9 there is shown another modification of the means for storing the cable in the case, consisting of bracket posts, L and L mounted on the opposite end walls of the case for receiving the cable coiled about them and intermediately around the handle of the iron, as may be understood most clearly from Figure 9.

having a hinged front and means for carry-- ing the electric cable of the iron out of contact with the body of the iron, said means mounted on the inner side of said hinged front and positioned thereon for carrying the cable abovethe body of the iron and at the forward side of the handle thereof when said hinged front is in closed position.
4. A container for the purpose indicated having the top and front wall hinged at their rear and bottom edges respectively for opening respectively rearwardly upward and downwardly forward, and separate means for carrying the electric cable of the iron mounted respectively on the under side of the cover and inner side of the frontwall, and positioned on said parts respectivel for carryingthe cable out of contact wit the body of the iron at the closed position of said cover and front.

A container for the purpose indicated having a closure member hinged for opening to insert and remove the iron and having a pocket mounted upon the inner side of the wall, adapted to contain the electric cable of the iron out of contact with any part of the latter, said pocket being completely closed as to communication with the cavity of the container when the closure member is at closed position, the, nortion of the wall upon which the pocket is mounted having ventilating apertures positioned for causing circulation of air from the exterior of the easing through the pocket.
