These pins are provided with-recesses 1 1 at its base allowing by grasping the button 15 a limited axial displacement and this in order to make the blade enter in these recesses. By applying the blade with its holes in correspondence with the pins 13 so as to assume the height of the recesses 14 and in displacing then the roll towards the right in grasping the button 15 the blade will be entered 111 these recesses. In passing then a leather strip below the inner roll 11 and exactly across the slot 16 and in giving then to-the razor a reciprocating motion on this leather strip conveniently appended at one end and kept by the hand at the other end the blade will be exposed to an oscillating motion and the edges sharpened with the proper inclination. According to Figures 3, 4c and 5 the cross piece 8 is detachably connected with the sides 9 of the yoke and this by means of pins 17 h applied upon the projections 17 of the cross piece,' which engage cuts 18 on'these sides 9. In connection with the safety razor of Figures 8 and 4 the blade for the sharpening operation is fastened upon a blade carrier consisting in a simple plate 20 supplied with circular edges 21 penetrating in the holes of the blade and presenting guides '22 oscillating around the pins 23 and adapted to be opened for the application of the blade on ihe carrier and to be closed afterwards. blade thus arranged upon the carrier is then applied upon the outer roll 11 in the way that the pins 24 are engaging theTecesses 25 of the carrier. In passing then the leather strip under the lower roll 11 and in conceding again to the tool a reciprocatingmovemention the strip, with the blade guard in touch with the strip, the blade will assume an oscillating motion and be sharpened on both sides of the same edge.
After the sharpening has taken place there will only have to be applied the detachable blade guard thereon and provided with an axial opening, an axially movable rectangular yoke situated in the axial opening and including an. outer crosspiece, means on the crosspiece for fastening a blade so as to allow in displacing the blade guard against theblade the adaptation'of the tool' for i shaving; a sharpening device'also carried-by the yoke and including two rolls, toothed; wheels engaging the rolls, and pins on the outer roll for engagement with-the rolls of the blade to be sharpened; and adapted for engagement with a. leatl1er sharpening strip which is passed under the innerroll for coactlng with the blade guard. c
