B. B. GREENHUT SUPPORTING BRACKET FOR CURTAINS, DRAPE RIES, AND THE LIKE Filed May 9. 1 2
-INVENTOR W 4 R'rroRN Patented Dec. 15, 1925.
UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN B. GREENHUT, OF ASTORIA, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO DAVID D. GRUN'HUT AND ONE-THIRD TO ABRAHAM S. GREENHUT, BOTH OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUPPORTING BRACKET FOR CURTAINS, DRAPERIES, AND THE LIKE.
Application filed May 9, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN B. GREEN- iio'r, a citizenof the United States, and re siding at Astoria, in the county of: Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sup porting Brackets for Curtains, Draperies, and the like, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to supporting brackets adapted for use in connection with curtain poles, rods, valance supports and the like; and the object of the invention is to rovide a device of the class specified which is so constructed as to permit of the adjustable supporting of poles, rods and other supports in connection therewith to facilitate the proper hanging of curtains, draperies and similar window decorations; a further object being to provide means on the end portions of the curtain poles :or rods for detachably coupling the same with said devices and for locking the same in connection with said devices against accidental displacement; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a device 01 the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, efficient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described. and claimed. 7 a
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a face View of two of the devices which I employ, illustrating the method of their use and part of the construction being broken away and in section.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a bracket made a cording to my invention and illustrating the method of its use, parts of the construction being broken away.
Fig. 3 is a partial sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1 and on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 4 is a partial section on the line H of Fig. 3. I
Fig. 5 is a sectional detail view of one end portion of a curtain rod; and,
Fig. 6 is a sectional detail view of the other end portion of said rod.
.bracket 13 consists Ushaped body preferably fashioned from 13 or the side portions 17 thereof.
Serial No. 29,021.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have shown for the purpose of illustrating one use of my invention, two curtains or draperies 10 and 11 and avalance or drapery 12 supported by my improved brackets or supporting devices and the rods or other supports employed; and at 13 in Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have illustrated one of my improved 13 is indicated in dotted lines. These brackets are both of identical construction, and in Figs. 2, 3 and 1 of the drawing I have shown one of these brackets in detail. The
of a
sheet metal and comprises a back wall mem her 1 1 and top arm member 15 arranged at right angles to the member 141 and a de-- pending face member 16. The side edge portions 17 of the members 14 and 15 are offset outwardly and downwardly respectively to form recesses 18 on their inner and upper faces as clearly seen in Fig. 4t of the drawing and the side edge portions 17 are provided with key-holed apertures 19 opening through the tree edges of said side portions as seen at 20 whereby coupling pins 21 may be locked into engagement with the brackets or devices Screws or other attaching devices 22 are passed through the other side portion 23 of the member 14 of the device and into a suitable support for retaining the devices 13 in position.
The coupling members 21 are provided at one end with enlarged heads 24: adapted to enter the recesses 18 and with reduced neck portions 25 adapted to be passed through the openings 20 of the apertures 19 in placing the members 21 in said apertures and. in locking the same in engagement with the devices 13. are threaded as shown at 26 and curtain pole or rod couplings 27 and 28 are adapted to be mounted on the threaded ends 26 of the members 21 whereby rods or poles 29 may be mounted in connection with the devices 13. One end of the rod or pole 29 is threaded into the coupling 27 while the other end of the rod or pole is held in engagement with the coupling 28 by means of an independent sleeve part 28" constituting part of said coupling. It will be understood that the coupling members 21 will be of standard brackets in full lines, and another bracket 1 substantially The outer ends of said members 21 size 10 '1'11.CllSS of the size or dimensions of the rods or poles employed, the couplings 27 and 28 being: constructed to suit the rod size and the standard size of the members 21. and said members may be inserted into any one of the number of apertures 19 employed on the D'lOlnlXl 14; and member 15 of the supporting); devices. Inrinserting the members 21 into the apertures 19, the narrow portion of the reduced necks are passed through the openings of said apertures, and when the nien'iber is inserted into the aperture, the same is rotated into a ri srht angle position seen in section in Fig". l of the drawing: to locate the member .21. aega inst displacement from the supporting); device 13 as will be ap parent.
The member 15 where it joins the dependinc' face member 16 is flattened out to re lievc the offset side portion 17 and to form of said member 16 a flat depending: plate which is provided with an elongated, vertically arranged aperture. 30. Employed in connection with the member 16 are two L- shaped clamp plates 31 and 3e and a bolt or stud fixedly secured to the plate 31 and extends throuarlt an elongated aperture 34 in the place and through the aperture in the memlgier 18 and a winged nut is mounted on said bolt 33 and serves to clamp the parts-16. 31 and 32 together in different positions of adjustment. Theparts 31 and 32 serve as means for securing a valance supportina member 26 in connection with the bracket devices 13 and the adjustments of t e parts 31 and 32 relatively to each other and relatively to the men'iber 16 is to compensate for the different sizes or vertical dimensions of the supports 36 and also for regulating" the hein'hth of said supports with reference to the devices 13, this construction being clearly shown in Fin. 3 of the drawinnj.
With m improved construction, two or more curtain poles, rods or the like may be mounted in connection with the members 14 nd 1.5 and so positioned thereon as to propc i support curtains, draperies or the like in re tive positions. and it will be also under; and that a valance support 36 of pred.c termined size may be adj ustably supported in connection with the devices 13 and retained in positions of adjustment by the winged nutsvirlfi. it will be apparent from the construction herein set out that but a single stamping is necessary in the formation of the devices 13, the offset side portions 1'? thereof being directed to the right in both brackets of a pair used in supporting rods andthe like. and when the poles are locked in position, the same cannot he accidentally displaced. However, by rotating; the members 21 in the separate devices 13, the entire pole may be removed from said devices with the curtains or draperies thereon or the memhers 521 may he left in locked position and the poles removed through the detachable sleeve part 28 of the coupling 28, it being: also understood that tl e valance support may be removed by simply loosening the winged nuts 355.
Vt will also be apparent that I am not necessarily limited to the use of the couplings 27 and 28, nor to the use of any specific pole or rod construction, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein set out truly be made within the scope of the a 'ipended claims without departing from the spirit o t my invention or sacrificingits advantages.
