Description

Dec. l 1925 l. SONN HosIERY AND sUPPoRTER THEREFOR Filed Jan. 9. 1925 attain,
Patented Dec. 1, 1925.
UNITED astenia ISRAEL SNN, 0F SCHUYLERVILLE, NEW? YORK.
HOSERY AND SUPPORTER THEREFR.
Application filed January 9, 1925.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ISRAEL Sonn', a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Schuylerville, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hosiery and Supporters Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hosiery and supporters therefor.
.An important object of my invention is to provide a combined sock and supporter which will be of integral construction and capable of being knitted in a single operas tion.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide a device of this character which will distribute the pull on the supporter evenly throughout the stocking.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a device of the above mentioned character in which the supporter will pos sess all of the elasticity of the stocking.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which will be of simple construction, easy and ineX- pensive to manufacture, strong and durable.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In, the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and wherein like characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout;
Figure l is a perspective view of my im proved stocking and supporter in use,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my im proved stocking,
ligures 3 and t are detail sectional views, an
Figures 5 and 6 are detail perspectives, parts being broken away.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral l() designates a sock or stocking which may be formed in any of the well known methods. This stocking is shown with a thickened porm tion or band 1l, but any other formation may be used if desired, as for instance, a ribbed top, or the like.
In the process of knitting, the streamers 12 are formed by branching off at a point 13 spaced from the top of the stocking. There are two of these streamers, one at each side of the stocking, and they are secured at the Serial No. 1,386.
top of the stocking by knitting the sides of the streamer at the point 14 to the stocking. This connection is very elastic and only serves to hold the streamer in position, and in a measure, to distribute the strain.
The stocking and supporter are preferably formed by means of the loop weaving process which gives a great amount of elasticity to the stocking and supporter.
Tt will be seen that strain on the streamers l is distributed through the entire stockingn Not only will the strain be distributed downwardly, but it will be imparted to the entire width of the stocking. These streamers are not attachments but are integral parts of the stocking and do not Yin any way affect the appearance of the stockings. There are no reinforcing ribs to render the stocking unsightly, as these are not necessary because of my improved construction.
The streamers are adapted to be wrapped around the leg of the wearer, crossed at the back and tied at the front. l/Vhen in this position they will retain the stocking in position with the utmost comfort to the wearer.
`While T have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having described my invention what T claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
l. Tn a stocking, a supporter knitted integrally therewith and branching therefrom at a point spaced from the top of the stocking and extending a substantial distance above the stocking in the form of a streamer, and means to connect a portion of the supporter adjacent the juncture with the stocking, to the top portion of the stocking.
2. Tn a stocking, a supporter knitted integrally therewith and branching therefrom at a point spaced from the top of the stocking,
and connection between the sides of the supporter and the top of the stocking said connection being relatively elastic with respect to said stocking whereby the strain of the supporter is distributed evenly throughout the stocking.
3. In a stocking, a supporter knitted integrally therewith and branching therefrom at a point spaced from the top of the stocking and making a line of connection with Said Stocking in a horizontal plane, said Supporter extending vertically to the top oi the Stocking and connected t-o said stocking at its top by a connection relatively elastice with respect to said stocking whereby the strain is transmitted substantially vertically to the line of the connection with the stookng, thereby insuring that it Will be evenly distributed, said Supporter extending beyond 10 the top of the stocking in a free streamer.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ISRAEL SONN.
